As someone who dislikes Orientalism, I hope nobody will call me an orientalist for saying that these people are thugs and idiots. Here a woman is expressing herself freely, and sexist men are insulting her on facebook. Go figure, religiously-minded sexual chauvinists can't stand stuff like this.

Another comment like that and I'm trashing the thread.
Nudism ftw.
The simple logic here for all you extremist Muslims out there would be: If you don't want to see it then don't fucking click on it. Why should she be blamed for this?
Please stop kidding with yourself, they get pissed just hearing that someone did that, they don't have to even see it at all.
We claim to live and die equal, the way we were born: we want this real equality or death; that’s what we need.
And we’ll have this real equality, at whatever price. Unhappy will be those who stand between it and us! Unhappy will be those who resist a wish so firmly expressed.
The French Revolution was nothing but a precursor of another revolution, one that will be bigger, more solemn, and which will be the last.

in this last two decades or so, the middle east has been poisoned by a more extreme version of islam. anyway, i've been to cairo and its a pretty hoppin metropolis, and ppl go to the night club and get wasted. there are a lot of deeply conservative elements but there are also some pretty "modern" elements

How was this sort of thing viewed prior to the revolution? There might have been a similar response from the public, but would she be facing legal issues under Mubarak? I also noticed plenty of positive comments on the facebook profile.
Either way, I'm suprised the photo is still up considering Facebook's policy towards nudity.

What's surprising as well is that this actually caused that much uproar. Sure, there's lots of islamists in Egypt, but there's another extreme: a friend of mine's ex went there and she said that she couldn't walk anywhere without having almost every man in the street whistling at her or making lewd comments, and some even tried to slap her ass. Apparently the men over there are extremely sexualized and harassment against women is almost an accepted part of society.

I strongly support this move by ElMadhi. Very well done. I haven't a fucking clue what she's on about though nor is it of primary interest.
I get a rush when standing in front of more people! The more people there, the more compelled I am to speak. I feel invincible with a huge croud listening to me.- Glorious Union
