Anarchists and Authoritarians

This may be stupid question, I don't know, but I've heard a lot of anarchists, and a lot from the authoritarian branches of communism, and while they both have appeals I am not sure I can see either working well. What I am wondering is if there is any middle ground. Is there any particular reason why a socialist society can't be a republic? Or more of a direct democracy, but at least with a constitution to prevent a tyranny of the masses? I know there are democratic socialists who want to vote socialism in, which would likely preserve a pre-established constitution, but, hypothetically, can't there be a revolution and then a completely new constitution written, which may set up a republic? I'm just wondering if there is some gaping flaw in that logic, or if there already are groups with that mindset.

There’s no such thing as “libertarian” and “authoritarian” communism (that’s anarchist bollocks). There’s only communism and revisionism, and communism can’t be achieved trough “socialism in one state” strategy, because it’s revisionism of one of basic Marxist principle – internationalism.

I would advise you to read some Marx & Engels classical works and then try to find some good book on history of Marxism where you can find a lot of tendencies and pick yourself one with which you agree. Also, I would advise you to read Luxemburg and Lenin on national question. That’s quite important issue.

To the OP, what you're talking about is called Left Communism.
