    Default There comes Poland

Thirty people were injured, including nine policemen, and more than 150 were arrested as nationalist and leftist protesters clashed with police on Friday during a march commemorating Poland's 93rd Independence Day.

'Hooligans' threw rocks and bottles at police, slightly injuring nine policemen, as several thousand marched in the capital, said Maciej Karczynski of the Warsaw police.

Police arrested more than 150 people, including members of leftist groups, after they attacked officers during the marches. The violence reportedly broke out when police tried to stop skirmishes between nationalist and leftist groups.

The march was organised by far-right organisations, including the All Polish Youth group. Around 10,000 people took part, organisers said.

Various left-wing organisations had said they would hold rallies and block the nationalists' march, calling the groups 'fascists'.

It was expected that people from all over europe would be there:
The Alliance’s website features leaflets in English and German, with Siempre Antifascista and Antifascist Left Berlin, German organisations considered extremist and violent, urging support for the anti-March action. In Berlin, Stuttgart, Rostock and several other German cities, anarchists have organised informational meetings under the slogan of “Let’s block a Nazi march in Warsaw”.

German leftist extremists are promising a repeat of Dresden, where their clashes with neo-Nazis on the anniversary of the Allied bombings of the city have become the largest street riots in Germany in years. A year ago, over 10,000 people stood on the anarchists’ side and several hundred were wounded on both sides of the barricade.

Germany is the bastion of European anarchists. But the Polish antifascists are counting most of all on fighters from the East. Anarchists from Ukraine, Belarus, and Russia are considered the toughest warriors, because their daily bread is opposing rightwing extremists, who in those countries operate more like terrorist organisations than just bands of street thugs.

    Guerrilla warfare
In their activities there are no rules. What matters is the purpose. “The rightist ultras have no scruples, attacking anyone who doesn’t fit their image of the ‘true Pole’. Likewise we accept all means that can change this. Handing out flowers won’t cure anyone of fascism”, argues an Antifa member known as ‘Rot’.
In eastern europe fascists arent street thugs like in the west they are mafias.

A quote to make people happy:
Among the injured was Patryk Bartoszewski, a 19-year-old observer who had crouched down to take photos of the clashes when a man in black kicked his camera into his face. Bartoszewski stood on the side of a street holding an ice pack to his bleeding face as he waited for an ambulance.
Bartoszewski was later taken to a hospital where he awaited treatment alongside two far-right activists — one who was attacked by a German anti-fascist protester and the other whose hand was injured after he forgot to throw firecrackers he was holding.

Great photos. This is awesome. I'm always happy to see leftists take to the streets... especially in opposition to fascists.

That first picture - is anyone else reminded of The Karate Kid? I mean the original, 1984.

Ahhh! I thought those were anarchists because of the general black dress. I didn't realize the person with the flag over their shoulders had a flag - for some reason I thought it was some kind of rain poncho.

    Now I feel stupid.

But my comment about The Karate Kid still stands.

Well most people do because in Europe a lot of nazi and fascist groups have copied the black block outfit because they try to attract they 'frustrated youngsters' just like most antifa used to do. And it kinda works for them aswell because they do attract some of them through subcultural hardcore/metal scenes

In Poland the situation is really difficult, most antifascist are a bit nationalistic they claim to be antinazi anticommunist because of the communist occupation during the cold war. There are a lot of antinazi Polish patriot hooligans who will fight the nazi/fascists but they might just as easily attack 'red' antifascists.

Some friends of mine and me where planning to go to the antifascist protests in Warsaw but we lacked the money (we're unemployed working class heroes due to the economy) but I'm allready looking forward to the demonstration in Dresden! It'll be a reall party just like the last 3 years!! I'm sorry for my enthousiasm but I just can't wait!

They are not fascists or nazis, they are simply very brutal hooligans, that was enjoying clashing with police.

In last year the anti-fascist blockade was overtaken by some coward liberals and Zionists that exploited a number of heroic leftists and anarchists for your own policy. E.g. the liberal journalist Seweryn Blumsztajn wrote on 5 th November 2010 in "Gazeta Wyborcza" to the leftists: "forgot the Balcerowicz's mistakes!"

Does that guy has a Serb flag draped over him? I can start to make out what appears to the edge of the crest on his left side on the flag.

It might just be the pan-slavic white, red, and blue tricolor.
