Default Documentaries which I should see!

    Comrades!

I'm looking for a documentary/documentaries that are from a Marxist/ socialist viewpoint or just a leftist viewpoint.

Has to be good and be online for free!

    Thanks!

The US vs John Lennon is quite good. It covers a lot of the struggles in the late 60's early 70's and the anti-war, marijuana legalization and Lennon's anarcho-pacifist ideology as well as some stuff on the black panthers and other groups.

The Battle of Chile is a good one, exploring the CIA backed militaristic dictatorship in Chile. There is another Guzman documentary, Chile, la memoria obstinada, that is about his first showing of the documentary after returning to Chile once the military dictatorship had been over thrown and the ban on his work lifted.

Also watch a documentary called The Aristocrats because it's hilarious.

I second this, especially the third programme about the 'war on terror' etc.

Good documentary site is documentaryheaven (dunno if its .com or whatever; google it).

Also maybe watch some of the Oliver Stone documentary films he made, like Comandante where he interviews Castro.
People think they have taken quite an extraordinarily bold step forward when they have rid themselves of belief in hereditary monarchy and swear by the democratic republic. In reality, however, the state is nothing but a machine for the oppression of one class by another, and indeed in the democratic republic no less than in the monarchy.

Very much a documentary, but not in the sense most of us are accustomed to. Also, it was made in the Soviet Union in the 20s. Definitely one of my favorite movies.
    You seem neat, but...

They divide us by our color, they divide us by our tongue,
They divide us men and women, they divide us old and young,
But they'll tremble at our voices when they hear these verses sung,
For the Union makes us strong!

Most of the documentaries from John Pilger's 40+ year career are free online. Of the ones I've seen, I recommend The War On Democracy, Year Zero: The Silent Death of Cambodia, Pyramid Lake Is Dying, and Conversations With A Working Man.

I agree with wunderbar here on "The War on Democracy" it really shows you how the US fought off so many democracies in South America, the tactics they used, and even interviews with those who carried it out, those who suffered and so on.

By the same journalist, I recommend watching "The War You Don't See":

http://www.1channel.ch/watch-1452741...eam-of-Freedom It's been a long time since I've seen this one but it was very good. I don't know if I agree with it anymore, but either way it's a must watch.

Today I watched a documentary called Harlan County USA which is about strike action undertaken by coal miners and their spouses during 1973 and it won an Oscar. I thought it was brilliant; it deals with scabs, spineless union reps, uncaring capitalists and all the important things experienced in strike action.
