    Default Advanced Math

So i didn't really get much out of school, not that i tried to rebel against it or anything; it just didn't work for me, i learn in a different way. After i left high school only then did i start to learn stuff, i don't mean life skill etc, i mean academia type stuff. I feel that now i need to address a void in my abilities that is Math. As a hobby i program and have done now for 3 years or a bit more, but i have reached a level where i want to learn about the greater theories involved, but any sort of reading i can find on the topic are all alien to me because they use symbols and such which i just don't know or concepts which i don't know. This mostly stemming from my low level of knowledge in math, i got by with minimal of grade in high school to graduate. So are there any resources in which i can use to help learn?

I have been putting it off for a while now, for me to grow i need to address this.

if i believe right, math that is relevant to computer science is mostly linear algebra and discrete mathematics. google lecture notes for that. if you want to get serious buy introductory undergrad textbooks for those subjects and go through the excersizes. look up university sillabi on courses like that because they can act as a reading guide, because they have which chapters are pertinent and which excersizes you should attempt etc.

There's probably a math forum somewhere in the interwebs.

Linear algebra is good, discrete math as well.
Here is something that you might find useful.

Sorry i didn't respond sooner, but revleft kept timing out for me last couple of days.

Awesome stuff, took a quick google on what discrete mathematics was, looks VERY interesting.

I can't say I'm particularly sympathetic to the OP's predicament. A lot of the notation you really should take the time to learn and it really only takes about half a day unless you are dealing with something as eclectic as this:

In applied and pure maths there are certain very commonly used symbols that recur over and over again that it's part of learning a language. It's not that hard either, I mean, it's mostly just memorizing definitions.
