The phrase can be offensive in some contexts like say for example, some redneck asshole is trying to mock me or how I talk then yeah, I'd be offended however I don't see what he said as being that offensive to me on the face of it. After thinking about it though, I don't really like the idea of him saying it in the manner that he did given the subject matter of the thread, no.
