Offcourse this has a relation to racism. No doubt about that.
Even if the cop, and I do not know, was non-white himself. The racial stereotypes are pretty much engrained in society. I think we had that bike stealing thread Rosa posted a few months back that illustrated that.
But this kid was black. And therefore he was immediately suspected of being a drug dealer and treated accordingly to both those stereotypes.
It is despicable.
