We have a thing similar to that at school, it makes it impossible to get any work done, you look up the reproductive system of frogs for a biology assignment and your parents get called at work to say that "Ian has been looking at inappropriate things on the school computers".

It's also a good way for companies to get paid lots, a lot of the approved site fork out thousands of $$ just to get on the approved list.

My old highschool had a filter known as "web-sense" on it, which blocked all "questionable" material.

Che-Lives and RaisetheFist is blocked because the catergory, "Militancy-Extremist" is blocked.
Indymedia.Org was blocked because the catergory, "Alternative Journals" is blocked.

Ironically, TheOnion is also blocked for the second reason. <_<

yeah, I got a similar blocking program at my school. Any written work my Marx or Engel is blocked out as well as Che-lives. Ironically, many pro-Nazi sites are functional as well as all pro-globalization web sites. Its such bull crap and it pisses me off.

The one at my school used to block anti-forestry sites &#39;cause they were pornography&#33; It also blocks google&#39;s cache &#39;cause its a loophole. It doesn&#39;t block this fine site but it does block the site that Comrade James posted, same reason.

The school has blocked the use of proxies apparently now as well. A bloke here used his laptop using a different proxy to access the net (just plugged the network cable into the network card on it).

I am going to try and use Knoppix and try a differnt proxy, but it probably won&#39;t work.

Alternative Journals are blocked? Why? I know there are blocked because they do not support the status quo line, but what is the excuse given by the software company?

I had to use the internet a few times under an AOL parental filter, and it blocked several things that were certainly appropriate for a "16-17 year old" age group to look at. It would not let me look at a good site with Incan history when I needed it for a project in my Spanish class. I was really pissed--I hate those filters.

Remember children "big brother is watching you", but what big brother doesnt know is that most patronising adults, dont have a fucking clue how to work the simplest program on a standard windows OS. They dont know that many "kids" as they like to call you... rather demeaning to be called an infantile goat IMO... can actually use a computer, and have a vast array of Proxy servers, and "dictionary attack" programs to break any pathetic piece of software you install, not to mention they know how to access the source code on the said program, and make it as daddy says "knackered".

But to all those not so technically minded "kids" out there, a simple way to bypass practically any site blocking software is to use that absolutly fabulous tool know as "Google". If there is a rather good site you may be trying to access, which has unfortunatly been blocked by mom & dad&#39;s, schools or works pathetic program, just go and visit Googles language tools link. In the URL box, just add the address of the said site, and just tell it to translate said page into english. This method works 90% of the time, failing that, there are other methods of "getting round" irritating security systems, but those are for another day.

haha wow, at my skool che-lives is blocked because its "extremist/militant" but i find it funny that i can get onto www.thechurchofsatan.com with no problems at all. even though, according to their standards, it should be blocked because its not a "normal" religion. their blocking systems are insane. and as for getting around parental controls there is a program on methodus tools called key spy. use that and you can steal your parents password and CHANGE the controls... thats what i did.

If you can find the executable of such programs, and have extensions for known file types enabled, ceange the .exe into a .txt file and delete the first few lines of text, or typ in any old rubbish, and save it back as an .exe.
