I have so much experience horrifying Western feminists.

And I have as much experience being offended and horrified by them.

Why should there be such a divison between West and East in this regard?

Take, for example, FEMEN, in Ukraine. It's the leading feminist organization. Their most recent stunts were topless protests. They always look like porn stars. Western feminists don't even consider they're serious.

But they are.

You see... there is a big difference between us.

First, Western feminists went first. And, in our opinion, they traded their womanhood for more equal rights. Jogging pants? SNEAKERS? Are you ****ing kidding me? On a woman?

SHOULDER PADS!? Why not just walk about with a sock in your panties and a fake beard?

They BETRAYED us, in my opinion. In Prague, in Sarajevo, in Moscow... a woman in a neon pink miniskirt is just as likely to be a CEO as a porn star. In America? Pfft... she would be laughed out of even a strip club.

To me, that is not good. And I hate it when I am in Canada and women look at me meanly because I have my high heels and I have my nice clothes. I don't leave the house without doing my hair and make-up.

I go grocery shopping the way an average Canadian woman dresses to be a guest at a wedding.

That's my BARE MINIMUM for going out in public.

And roll your eyes if you want, but it's a sing of BASIC RESPECT! It's respect for myself, taking pride in myself, and it's showing respect for the people who have to look at me.

And none of it has any impact on whether or not I stand up for myself to my husband, if I have a good job with equal rights and promotions and pay, if I am happy with my life. It's IRRELEVANT to all that!

So STOP looking at me and feeling superior. You're not. You have better rights, yes... but I am JUST as CONSCIOUS and PROUD of what I am as you are of what you are.

That is what, I think, Western feminists need to know. If they would accept that, I would have so much fewer arguments.

And I am genuinely willing and, honestly, eager, to listen. So if you have opinion, ESPECIALLY if you completely disagree, please calmly and respectfully share it! I promise I will show you the same respect in my response. And I really will listen.

I guess I agree. Honestly, most Western feminists these days are fucking stupid and don't even give a shit about equal rights -- at least the ones we see in the media. The ones who should be the real representatives of our movement are too smart for anyone to want to pay attention to them. Eastern feminists know what they're doing.

I guess I'm anti-culture on the whole dealio. I think both trying to assimilate into male culture and conversely being proudly "female" are both counterproductive to what feminism should be, i.e. a movement which seeks the abolition of patriarchal relations.

I can't speak much on the matter of Eastern feminism though.

This is just a horribly stupid thread. Let people dress whichever way they want, it's about making the man and the woman (or if you don't want to identify as either) equal. Why be bat-shit insane and make the same lies as the right-wing conservatives, and suddenly think that all feminists dress "ugly" or "manly". And if that was the case: can't people dress the bloody way they want? Can't really see the revolutionary or feminist part of looking "nice" to other people.

Really though, as cliche as it sounds, if you think that declining to obsess over aesthetics is "trading in one's womanhood", you're a really, really vapid and boring person. Personally I like girls that don't look like they've spent 5 hours preening in front of a mirror, because I think maybe they spent that time doing something actually interesting or important.

Its quite perplexing to see a thread speaking out against Western feminism on the basis of how they dress or how they judge the way they dress. I would have thought feminism was a little deeper and more complicated than that. Your opposition to western fems dressing in a more 'masculine' way is just as shallow and ignorant as them sneering at your short skirt and heels.
On a more personal level, I feel the prettt, 'girly' modes of dress and obsession with make up is vain, pointless and a by product of what men think is attractive and preferable for women to wear...but in the end, dress how you like, it's not something anyone should be criticized for (unless they're blacked up and wearing a KKK hood)
