Personaly, I think it might be a deformed, overgrown monkey, I'd like to say otherwise, there is no tail (may have been amputated by photographer/fight w/other animal) I want to beleive this was something more than a monkey, but the arms are too long.

One other curiosity, the face, I'm familiar with monkeys, and the face on this one is very irregular, too long, almost like a chimpanzee.

As far as I know, the measurments when compared to the crate it was sitting on, said that it was about five foot one, about right for a very large chimp. However, chimpanzes do not live in South America and this specimen is too thin (possibility emaciated from hunger) The only way this was a chimp is if it escpaed from a private zoo.

Most critics call this picture an exxagerated spider monkey, I'm undecided.

Note the deformed face, the clump of blisters along the chest (probably bad photography, and the deformed genitalia. In South America, this ailment afflicts humans and apes, most likely. Just a theory, but probably an incorrect one. If Che were here, he could tell us

Thinking from that perspective, I'd say the thing was sick whe it was shot, the quality of the photo is poor, you have a point.

I think that it was a spider monkey that had a growth hormone imbalance. This doesn't in any discredit the possibility of there being large primates that are yet to be recorded scientificaly.

Absence of proof is not proof of abscence.

    the truth is out there...

Anyway, I've cracked this baby wide open. I found the mask this impostorer was using at a costume mask website called party domain. The mask in question is called "Old Man Gilbert" and costs 10.75 pounds. This leads me to believe that the picture in question is just a mischevious brit who shops at said store.

freaks. anyway, I'm not stating any kind of opinion on these majestic creatures either way, but couldn't you have just put this in the "Foot of the Yeti?" topic?

I mean, no jive to you, but these kind of posts destory Science and Environment's legitimacy to some point.

I've seen enough evidence of the Loch Ness monster and Bigfoot as I have seen evidence supporting magic and religion. I don't believe in the second two, so why would I believe in the others? I'm under the impression if things like magic, monsters, or what have you did exists; the United States government would have found some way to utilize these aspects into their military operations.
