I'll try to make constructive thread and not trash thread or de-repute and spread gossip/lies or half truth (justly or unjustly) about DRPK.

South Korea is rules by Capitalists, its Capitalist society where people work, work, work and do not have time to think, most of them are Content. Media spread half truth about north, spining population toward hatred of north (?) And we all know how media are powerful! Also we should not trust those capitalist surveys and beside, if i read correct it is based on population of 500 people ?

So everything is understandable, and everything is explaind.
    I support joint Olyimpcs.

I'm sure people work in the North as well, I'm sure they work a lot to for not so much. I'm much rather live in a democratic Capitalist country than a dictatorship tyranny (there is no socialism in North Korea).

There are many different surveys, but you know what, its really hard to get information from North Korea because its so tightly controlled by the Monarch.

But anyway, at least South Korea (which has MAJOR problems of its own and is in many ways worse than the US, attacking unions, attacking free speach and so on), does'nt rely 100% on forein aid to feed its people, many of whome starve, nor do they send thousands to what basically amount to death camps, nor do they control all the media and legislate speach.

    @TGacky3

I did not comment North Korea, i did not say its Socialist or Communist or Capitalist. I commented why people of South Korea according to survey don't want joint Olyimics. I will be rude now, ...If you CAN'T follow topic-discussion, please don't...

The OP was not talking about Korea being socialist or if he North Korea is ruled by democracy or not...Just plain and simple about South Korea who does not want joint Olympics.

btw democratic Capitalist is contradictory if you ask me...as RevLefter...

Interesting. I always though both the North Korean and Shouth Korean people were in favour of reunification. Well kicking the north in the crotch like that doesn't sound like a healthy way to start.
Are the people just brainwashed or too proud of their "new" southern identity?

Considering the state the DPRK is in I really don't think they want their country to be paraded about for all the world to see its poverty and suffering
Making stadiums and such would rape the nonexistent economy anyway
"Man's inhumanity to man" is not the last word. The truth lies deeper. It is economic slavery, the savage struggle for a crumb, that has converted mankind into wolves and sheep.

That is a slander on the DPRK. The only people who publish such propaganda solely rely on the testimony of defectors who are unreliable. You are free to see North Korea for yourself and see that it is quite nice. There is no verifiable proof that people would be punished for protest votes in fact candidates are carefully selected thats why there are no protest votes.
Dear and glorious leader is the greatest golfer on the planet right comrade?

No poverty or starvation in great nation. And those Samsung ACs at the DMZ? It's a trick, they are really designed personally by dear leader. He is secret consultant for Samsung!

Older Southerners were, for what I presume will be obvious reasons, but for a lot of the recent generations the North is just an insane tinpot dictatorship squatting on their Northern border that they would quite happily see sink into the sea. Reunification, at least in the immediate sense traditionally implied, the "German fashion", you might say, carries for them no benefit beyond satisfying Granny's romantic nationalism, and carries the burden of lifting an entire country from grinding poverty to a First-world standard of living virtually single-handedly.

I'm still waiting for somebody to explain why people have an obligation to 'their' State, so that they are themselves responsible for building and subsequently maintaining its sense of pride. And then I want to know why those not even living under a given State could be considered equally obliged to protect and serve it, so that failure to do so could be considered an act of betrayal...

So, the imperialist dogs are barking at the gates, North Korea wants to co-operate with a capitalist regime (that some users have characterised as worse than the Northern regime), just for a costly and pointless international pissing contest? And some users are annoyed when the south don't want this to be a joint venture?

the DPRK is a people's country and has a constitutional guarantee of housing, food and employment therefore hosting the Olympics would not be oppressive to the poor or homeless since no such thing exists in the DPRK.
Why has anyone continued with this thread past this?

But just for the fuck of it I'll throw in my 2 cents. I think it wouldn't make 1 fuck of a difference if they did it together. The world wouldn't suddenly like the DPRK and the people of ROK wouldn't suddenly kick out their capitalist government and hug Kim Jong-Il and his magnificant leadership abilities. I think the DPRK has enough problems as it is without having to worry about how they will pay for the Olympics.

I agree that ultimately its contradictory, but you know waht I mean. They don't want joint Olympics because the Olympic commitee would never agree to it and because they are seperate countries, that are still officially at war.
