Some of the quotes in that story show just how fucking retrogressive the CCP is.

Since the decriminalization of gay sex in 1997,
Starting in 2001, homosexuality is no longer classified as a mental illness.
When it comes to movies and TV shows, however, strict censorship still applies to homosexual content, which is deemed inappropriate for public consumption.
Legalized in 1997, was considered a mental illness until 2001, censored in movies and televisions today ... how "progressive". It is hard to believe that there are actually socialists out there approving of this government, its policies on gays seems no more enlightened than that of the borderline-theocratic American Republican party!

China today is even worse than China during the Stalinist days on this issue. In those days homosexuality was denounced as a "bourgeois deviation", but China today can't even make the same arguments anymore, since the ruling bloc in China today is far more "bourgeois" than even the most liberal queer activist. Which is more bourgeois, two men having sex or a man changing sex into a woman, or rich billionnaire bureaucratic capitalists having dozens of wives and mistresses?

This is not to say the Stalinist argument against LGBT rights is valid either, but China today is significantly worse in that it has kept most of the negative aspects of Stalinism, but now has all the negative aspects of neoliberal capitalism too.

Well to be fair, homosexuality was only fully decriminalized in 2003 in the United States although I believe that Texas was the only state hanging onto the anti-sodomy laws. But still the CCP seems to be having fun being the most reactionary communist party on the block. I mean seriously why don't they just call themselves something else, like the Chinese nationalist party. Honestly what do they gain from such an obviously false label.
“How in the hell could a man enjoy being awakened at 6:30 a.m. by an alarm clock, leap out of bed, dress, force-feed, shit, piss, brush teeth and hair, and fight traffic to get to a place where essentially you made lots of money for somebody else and were asked to be grateful for the opportunity to do so?” Charles Bukowski, Factotum
"In our glorious fight for civil rights, we must guard against being fooled by false slogans, as 'right-to-work.' It provides no 'rights' and no 'works.' Its purpose is to destroy labor unions and the freedom of collective bargaining... We demand this fraud be stopped." MLK

Even "Chinese Nationalist Party" wouldn't be such an accurate name since even from a left-wing nationalist perspective, the current CCP regime isn't really a good thing for the people of China.

The CCP today is really the "Chinese Neo-liberal Capitalist Party". Neoliberal Market Capitalism is now the new ruling ideology in China, just like Maoism was a few decades ago. Anyone who dares to oppose the promotion of the most ruthless forms of neoliberal capitalism on Chinese soil under autocratic rule will be mercilessly suppressed.

It is very sad that a country that claims to be Communist acts like this.

Actually apart from Cuba, none of the other current ruling "communist" parties have a more progressive policy on LGBT rights than the CCP.
