Question If you were offered a huge amount of money...

From a left wing point of view, what would your reaction be? Seeing as the majority of us are generally opposed to the idea of money or being x10 richer than someone else, what would you do with a huge amount of money? I've been thinking about this for a while.

personally i would keep it, and use it to make the live of my gf and me better(we're both pretty poor) + giving some of it to family members and friends who might need some. also i would probally make my amazon wishlist a bit smaller, there are so many books on there and i just dont have the money to buy any of them.

It is true that labor produces for the rich wonderful things – but for the worker it produces privation. It produces palaces – but for the worker, hovels. It produces beauty – but for the worker, deformity. It replaces labor by machines, but it throws one section of the workers back into barbarous types of labor and it turns the other section into a machine. It produces intelligence – but for the worker, stupidity, cretinism.

If some guy just walked up to me and gave me a load of money, I would probably donate it all to charitable organisations and revolutionary movements as well as a few gifts for close family and friends.

Unless I was having financial problems at the time in which case I would probably keep a bit more for myself.

I'd give around 15% to some sort of Communist/Socialist organization and then the rest for paying off rent and bills etc

Spend it all because when you die you cant take it with you.

Nah I'd probably just buy a really nice house for my family and save the rest of it.

I don't like fancy things so I would probably spend it on what I need and maybe try and invest it into something that could benefit people who are poorer.

Oh and I'd make a music video of me stunting hard af just to post on here when somebody has a problem with my position on Afghanistan. It would go down kind of like this:

Hey you're an imperialist we have to uphold the Taliban as the Pashtun people's vehicle of resistance

I can assure you, I'm telling the truth. As a matter of principle, the only money I would spend on my own pleasure would be money I worked to get, unless I was truly in need.

This is all very abstract. I mean, money in itself does not change one's relation to the labour market per se. It also depends on what you mean by 'huge' amounts of money. To me, £1000 is a huge amount of money. Am I donating it? Almost certainly not. These threads seem to happen all the time on leftist sides and I think some people try and painfully point out how 'communist' or how 'working class' they are when given a situation where 99% are most likely taking the money and running with it.

If we're talking hundreds of thousands the situation is slightly different. I'm buying a house. I'm giving money to my parents. I'm sure as hell taking a year out of work and study to do things that I never thought I could. No act of philanthropy is going to dent the capitalist system - thats not saying I do not support charities, but i'd do something more concrete. I'd probably set up strike funds for comrades.

If you have enough to start a buisiness, or live off Capital gains then yes it does.

I'd probably invest it, give some of it to charity, and save some too.

    It depends how much really.
