"The British National party appears to be heading for meltdown at the polls after being wiped out in its key target city of Stoke-on-Trent and securing only one seat on councils to have declared so far.
The extreme rightwing party has been hit by internecine strife over the last year, with a string of senior figures defecting amid growing concern over the state of its finances.
It only managed to field around 250 candidates in Thursday's local elections – compared with approximately 700 in the equivalent polls in 2007 – and its only victory so far has come in Queensbury, West Yorkshire.
The BNP has so far lost seven of the 11 council seats it was defending, with three still to declare.
In Stoke-on-Trent, it lost all five of its sitting councillors. It also appeared to have failed in Wales, where it had predicted a breakthrough in the runup to the vote.
The BNP spokesman, Simon Darby, refused to comment on the results, saying "there was no point". Anti-racist campaigners said the results were disastrous for the party.
"[BNP leader] Nick Griffin is now in a really parlous position," said Nick Lowles from Hope not Hate, which has mobilised thousands of anti-racist campaigners in the past few weeks.
"The British National party as a political force now appears to be finished ... it has such huge debts that even the rebels who are openly opposed to Griffin have realised it is not worth taking over."
The BNP reached a high water mark in 2009 when Griffin and Andrew Brons were elected to the European parliament but, in the past 18 months, its support has imploded.
Dozens of prominent figures have either been suspended or have resigned, and in recent weeks it emerged that around 15 former members had defected and were planning to stand for the rival English Democrats.
Insiders say they predict further walkouts and defections in the coming days."

The BNP know full well that they are loosing ground from the electorate. That's why they have sent in the little cretins we all recognise as the EDL. They are the stormtroopers, but they have an assignment as to exclude eachother. But only in public. The EDL leader, Stephan Yaxley Lennon, is a goldmember card carrying member of the BNP, as is Kevin Carroll, who built their website and the BNP's. They use dark people as a decoy, but on their forums their financial leader Allen Lake has proclaimed he wants non whites contained into ghetto's, so their demise will be made rather easy as opposed to finding them on the open streets.

With the creation of the EDL, Griffin tries to sucker in normal working class youngsters who are desenfranchised into racial hunter gatherer groups defined by their ethnicity.

Laird's right. Many councillors and a lot of members have turned to the English Democrats.

The BNP may revert back to its roots and begin marching again, they have threatened this, and it maybe a last resort to try and show strength. It will fail, but I must stress, the EDL is not a BNP front. Many members on their support UKIP, or the ED. However, there's still many who are either BNP members or sympathisers. The BNP will probably try to use the same platform as the EDL, don't know if that'll be successful or not, but they'll most likely raise the same issues, which will most likely attract EDL members. But all of this is just speculation, it's not necessarily true.

He has also been depicted in front of ‘White Pride’ and loyalist flags and also with BNP ‘defector’ Chris Beverley holding English Democrat propaganda. Is he a little confused? There is a particularly scabrous slanging match on VNN UK Nazi forum between Cheryl and her detractors which is most amusing.

Although researching fascist activity is depressing at times, it is the infighting, hypocrisy and general insanity of their views that makes it worthwhile. Especially the Twunt story. And their woes continue. Last weekend the BNP held a Saint George’s weekend gathering in Yorkshire where 1 of their number arrived with a cache of replica weapons. Several BNP candidates were photographed with the guns. Not content with posing like retarded Rambo’s, Simon Goodricke, Yorkshire ‘organiser,’ Gary Tumulty, Salford ‘organiser,’ and BNP candidate Darren Lumb were also photographed bearing their fat arses for all to see. Check it out if you have the stomach for it (and these charmers certainly have plenty of stomach)

And all this before the local elections. Not only that, but North East BNP official Adam Walker was arrested for GBH and affray after going mental in his Land Rover and threatening some kids after ‘having strong drink taken’. This was his 2nd arrest in a week. It’s almost as if they don’t want to be elected.'

So,
Griffin has lost all credibility and his hanging on with his MEP for the cash.
Butler and Edmonds dont stand much chance of ousting him.
UKIP, British Freedom, NF, English Democrats, EPP etc - this all means dilution of the far right vote.
Which is good news for us! The main bother is the EDL but they are also fragmenting with rivalries and splinter factions. This can only be a good thing!

very true, but i think there's a trend in which the far right become obscure when we get a tory government. maybe i'm wrong, but it seems that these openly thatcherite policies lead to big union activity and leads the working-class in those directions, where-as under labour there has still been the illusion of progressivism which has the unions on its side and leads to the far right capitalising on the public's discontent, hence NF or BNP making gains and recruits.

It's definitly true that under center-"left" government the angry white working-class tends to drift more to the fascists. Which makes the "vote labour against the BNP" campaigns liberal anti-fascist like the swp and searchlight constantly run so embarrassing.
If anything did wonders for the bpn electoral votes its the pandering to the wrong aspects of multiculturalism by the likes of livingstone and galoway.
