Tabletop RPGs Are Both Infantile and Burgueoise
Depends on how many players join/what setting is chosen
GURPS is awesome and all, but it is nothing when compared with this other system I know, known as...

Seeing how a new BoPy game was started and everyone was cool with it, I propose introducing the GURPS System: http://bit.ly/ef5cKI. I have so far had a rather frustrating experience when it comes to designing my own BoP, but I've DMed before, and it is statistically plausible to think some of you have played something of the sort.
I propose GURPS because it is, in its way, open source, and also because of how maleable it is. This would also be an opportunity to discuss possible campaign settings.
Ideas: Current-day ultra-realistic, Current-day Matrix/John Woo stylized "gun fu", Futuristic Cyberpunk, Historical Setting...the possibilities are endless, but these seem to be the most common ones chosen.

By the way revleft doesn't have any sort of built in dice rolling, unlike websites dedicated to playing traditional RPGs, how do you propose circumventing this?
Otherwise I'd be quite interested. Never played a straight historical game before so I'd put my name forward for that.

no 2 is enough

Only tabletop setting I really like is Warhammer, both Fantasy and 40K.
I was thinking of using this: http://www.roll-dice-online.com/
Isn't Warhammer a wargame? Or can you link to a free RPG version?
Historical seems the more respectable choice, y'all can start proposing settings. Might I suggest we play as the crew of the Granma? (I'm reading the Che's account of the revolution right now, and it requires a lot of cleverness to even make it to the Sierra Maestra in the first place)
I take it that you as the gamemaster would then be doing all necessary rolls?
Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000 are both wargames, yes, but they have extensively detailed settings attached to them. The RPG versions of both are, unfortunately not free (and in the case of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay the latest edition is a steaming pile of shit) but the beauty of GURPS as a universal system is that it is setting agnostic.

Yes, Jazzrat, that's why I've chosen it. Still, having played the 40k videogames, I really would appreciate some sort of pre-made companion text, or setting guide.
So far, we have one vote for Warhammer (Roman, 40k ok?) and one for historical (Jazzrat, would you suggest a particular place and time period?)
Well this is the most complete resource on Warhammer canon I know of, although it's probably a bit difficult to navigate unless you're looking for specific things. The wikipedia article contains a short introduction on the background for both flavours, too.
I didn't really consider a time period when I answered, to tell the truth (EDIT: Having said that Ancient Rome or somewhere in Europe during the dark ages when we lived in our own filth and everything sucked could be a laugh). It comes down more, I think, to what era of history you feel you know well enough to run convincingly. Also, as I'm interested in taking part only if there's enough interest I'd be happy to change my "vote" to Warhammer if you reckon you can get up to speed with it quickly.

I'm down with GURPS. If dice rolling would be an issue, maybe something less involved would be better:
Swords and Wizardry (both "Free-style" and White Box)
or TWERPS.
TWERPS isn't free but the rules consist of determining the score (3-7) of a single stat ("Strength") with checks involving rolling 1d10+Strength and scoring higher than either a number from 1-10 or another player/character's roll. Damage is taken off Strength and the weapons typically do 1-3 points of damage.

"[...]driving down the highway screaming 'Ploterait of the world, unite!'."
Swords and Wizardry looks cool, but I've come to learn that people prefer pbps where there are strict rules.
As for setting, I have two areas of semi-expertise: I can either run a Classical-Ancient period (I'm not such an authority on imperial Rome, but I know some fundamentals), or I can do a rather convincing 20th century Latin America (pre-Geisel Brazil is pretty much a more interesting wild west, and we could always throw a party for some goats).
Warhammer seems like a complex mythology. Though I can explain some of the aspects of the factions, I dont really know much of its history and mythology. I can, and will, try to learn, but it would be rough at best.
I'm not any sort of ultimate loremaster of the setting but I know enough about it that if you have any questions you can ask me. I know more about 40K than fantasy.

Well, So far we have both you and Roman. Are you going to be changing your vote to 40k then? I would prefer a party of 4, let's see if more people bite in.
I'd be happy to go for 40k, although some aspects might be harder to duplicate with the fairly limited list of advantages in the lite edition than I thought.
