    **** NEWS FROM CNBC********

WORD OF THE FOURTH recent case of anthrax in the United States came in a memo from top NBC executives Robert Wright and Andrew Lack and said the employee was being treated with antibiotics and was expected to make a full recovery.
“We have no reason to believe that this particular incident has spread beyond this individual employee,” the memo said.
The memo indicated that tests were conducted at NBC’s headquarters at 30 Rockefeller Center in recent days after “suspicious mail was received.”
It said that the New York City Department of Health, the federal Centers for Disease Control and the FBI were contacted and the mail was tested.
“All these tests came back negative. However, this morning, a later test on the employee came back positive for traces of cutaneous anthrax,” the memo said.
New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani was expected to discuss the case at a news conference later Friday.

i heard the same story, but not in new york. it was in the florida offices of the national inquirer (i won't be missing any of those fascists). what's going on, is this just war propaganda or what? why is the spread of the anthrax so isolated? i'd have thought that any outbreak would have affected more than four people, especially in such densely populated areas.

funny how it only happened in reactionary newspaper offices, whose racist ideals have only been furthered by this news.
it said in the report on the outbreak in the national inquirer offices that the infected people were not the only ones to have been exposed to the supposed source. so what about the other workers? why didn't they contract the bacteria?

i just received the report on the nbc outbreak in my e-mail from ananova. it is very similar to the case in florida, but the fbi are ruling out a possible terrorist attack for now.

here's more on that from NBC...

WORD OF THE fourth recent case of anthrax in the United States came in a memo from Andrew Lack, NBC’s president and chief operating officer, and Chairman and CEO Bob Wright.
The memo said that a female employee had tested positive for “cutaneous anthrax” — which is contracted through the skin rather than through breathing. That is a different type of the bacteria than the airborne type that infected three newspaper workers in Florida, one of whom died, and is not highly contagious, health officials said.
At a news conference shortly after the memo was distributed to NBC employees, Lack said the female employee, who was identified as a “Nightly News” staffer, was being treated with antibiotics and was expected to make a full recovery. The disease was detected after the employee, who was not identified, came down with “a low-grade fever and a bad rash,” said New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, who also spoke at the news conference.
Giuliani said that out of “an excess of caution,” the third floor and two other portions of the network’s headquarters would be closed for several days while environmental tests are conducted. Network employees who may have come in contact with the letter also would be tested for anthrax and given antibiotics as a precaution, he said.

I have family in Scotland... if Forfar & Sterling.

I suppose I'm nervous about it in a way... but no use worrying about it... there's truly nothing I can do about it... and worrying isn't going to help much.

Times like this I wish my family stayed in Scotland

i go to glasgow university and the stockpile is about thirty miles away in a place called faslane on the clyde where they have nuclear sub dens too. i'd never even heard of it until four weeks ago when i started uni (typical), but aparently every year they hold a kind of peace festival in the middle of the road leading to the base with street theatre and stuff to keep the protesters entertained. there are only two ways back to glasgow, you can either take one of the mini-buses to the nearest train station or refuse to get out of the road and go home through the local police station. there's supposed to be quite a large turn-out this year. some of the more dedicated pacifists have a kind of commune there called the faslane peace camp where they can monitor activities all year round. they organise the annual blockade and have also come down to glasgow recently to take part in the scottish coalition for justice not war.

Well, I've heard that the best method for thwarting Martian mind control is a simple tinfoil skull cap. Low-tech but effective. You could wear it under a wig if you feel a bit awkward in public. Good luck and interplanetary peace.

    Anthrax fact file

What is anthrax? It is an acute infectious disease caused by the spore-forming bacterium Bacillus anthracis.

Where does it come from? It most commonly occurs in wild and domestic lower vertebrates (cattle, sheep, goats, camels, and other herbivores).

How common is it? It's most common in agricultural regions, such as South and Central America, Southern and Eastern Europe, Asia, Africa, the Caribbean, and the Middle East.

Is it contagious between humans? Not easily spread between humans.

How is it caught? Through breathing in, eating or touching the spores with broken skin. The incubation period is about a week in most cases.

What are the symptoms if inhaled? Initially like a common cold - fatigue, fever, cough. After several days, severe breathing problems, shock and bluish skin colour.

What are the symptoms if touched? An itchy bump, like an insect bite, which darkens over several days. Approximately 95% of all infections are through contact with broken skin.

What are the symptoms if digested? Acute inflammation of the intestinal tract. Initial signs of nausea, loss of appetite, vomiting, fever are followed by abdominal pain, vomiting of blood, and severe diarrhea.

Can it be treated? Doctors can prescribe effective antibiotics - the sooner the better. If left untreated, the disease can be fatal.
It cannot but be supportive, socialist, communist or whatever you want to call it. Does nature, and the human species with it, have much time left to survive in the absence of such change? Very little time. Who will be the builders of that new world? The

The only time the government has said anything during my lifetime that I feel was totally truthful is when Gore and Clinton apologized for the treatment of Native Americans. They also said how horribly the Original Americans had been treated. They finally said something truthful. Of course, the part about them being sorry is hard to swallow.

so what did they do about it? how many more years will it take them to publically condemn the vietnam war? and what about afghanistan? it's no good saying i'm sorry 200 years after the event when noone is alive to accept it. they need instant condemnation of any terrorist act perpetrated by america by americans.

I think that this anthrax scare is non-terrorist related. This country has the tendency to create mass hype. Look after the WTC attack, how many Arabs were attacked? Yet on t.v. I never saw any programs on educating America about Islam. People here like to jump the boat. I think this anthrax scare is a distractor for America. Americans should focus on helping the people of Afghanistan. Did anyone notice that on American t.v. you never saw pictures of the children that were hurt in the bombings? The response from the govt. was "it was a mistake". Why? Because Afghans are not Americans their lives are dismissed?! But 7 people die from Anthrax which could or could not be related and that is on the news 24/7. Worry about the real problems in the world, 7.5 million people are going to starve to death in a month.
