So everyones been going mad about this freestyle from this female rapper.
+ YouTube Video
She openly raps about how many men she has had sex with etc, and lots of people have been critcising her for it. Im not going to lie, i was like WOW when i saw it, but really, countless male rappers talk about how many women they have had sex with, yet no one bats an eyelid
So is she doing something good here? (Im not trying to uphold OG Niki as some sort of feminist tho lol)
p.s. she's a good rapper IMO
i not really been clear
ITT, i would like feminists to explain what this video and its reactions shows about patriacy, sexism and all that stuff
'Willing' participation in oppressive societal structures doesn't legitimize the structures nor does it minimize their harmful effects. Do you have accurate lyrics handy? It would be easier to come to a conclusion.
Edit- I can't actually listen to it right now as I just unplugged speakers which are being used for something else but my initial reaction from reading the two replies here is that the song implies sex some how equates to self-worth in an objectifying manner.

Basically the reactions to this video demonstrate the double standard in sexual agency: culturally, men are expected to brag about conquests, and while it may cause negative reactions, the negative reaction will not really tend towards disapprobation of the behaviour itself so much as a "why is she with him and not with (people more like me)" - in short it's supposed to elicit envy. If a woman does it, the reprobation will be more typically about how she's a loose woman of little morals, and often accentuate the fact that to mainstream culture, she's seen as broken goods/unmarriageable, etc. She's a slut and therefore bad, he's a stud and therefore enviable. At least going by comments.
I'll look for a prof's writings on that, but she once wrote a tangent about it, pointing out that this affects a lot of our social mores and causes a lot of alienation because society expects men to be de facto poly(gamous/amorous/etc) while women are expected to be chaste, all the while maintaining an illusion of monogamy, unless they're whores (I hate bringing the Madonna (or Gaga)/Whore complex, but many people do in these conditions and it tends to, sadly, fit). Thus we people trying to assert control of women's sexuality and bodies, while monogamy is hailed as normal and natural and the reaction to cheating will also vary wildly.
(Also I'm not claiming that polyamory is heavenly utopia.)
Lyrics would be great for the actual content.

theres no lyrics properly printed (shes only just become known, and people dont do that for freestyles) but if u guys are having trouble understanding the accent/slang i can explain bits. tomorow ill type bits out maybe, cant right now tho
I can't understand her at all through the thick accent. Is she from like Europe or something? What ever she said it had some flow to it.
I dreamt of a flower that was so beautiful that when it whithered away and died a tear left my eye. I saw our births, our lives and our deaths. I felt fire paint me with pain and I felt a kiss on my lips with a knife in my neck. Love to heartbreak to self-destruction to birth and to finally learning to frolic back into the same trap with a warm smile.

how come women aren't allowed to talk about sex without being labeled a "slut" or "lacking self-respect" or "desperate for attention"?
First of all 'talk about sex' is ambiguous. Does it serve them or does it serve the patriarchy?

Thanks... That would be great; I feel a bit like in hot fuzz trying to follow what she's saying, even if the rhythm is great.
Why do I even bother commenting on YouTube

She's English, yeah. Working class British accents can get pretty thick, especially by American standards.
Yeah you red coats sound like really strange to me.![]()
