I´m not sure why I read american magazines. I pick an occasional tabloid in order to understand - or merely try to understand – how other people think.
Today i tried a Time Warner clone ”Fortune”, not looking for a recepy for it , just curious why ”the buisness goes to war”.
Mainly the paper is all crap. Its full of ”analyses” of droping stocks, whole-page-advertisement and capitalistic truisms. They are pathetic, but at the same time scared.

Its all about so called freedom and survival of s.c. open society. The rich and powerfull companies enjoyed it for about 7 years, moving people, currency, merchandise as they wished. WTC attacs changed it all. Jerry Useem points out that their world is turning inward in response to that. ”Already there are reminders that our borderless world has borders after all. Healthy conclusion there, Jerry. A border means your country ends and another begins. Stop there if you want to defense youself!
So whats up with yankes, why´re they acting like a ”universal cops”, using USS Enterprise at al to terrorise chosen parts of ”their world” as they please? Who is the mad dog here? The saudi dervish or the texas farmer?
USA makes a distinction here and I´m not suprised at all. Down in the bag, together with bin Laden and talibans, goes all antiamerican oposition. This time the solution is final (gah…) and determined to crush all oponents. Useem thinks that ”it has always been a short hop from nationalism to protectionism”. Well said but not enough! Protectionism is when french farmers goes on strike. Dont let USA skip the responsibility for infiltration, destabilisation and manipulation of several goverments in countries they feel free to rape. They look so foolish making friends with recent enemies against former friends. Its not the first case of misfired M6 rifles and disobedient puppets. So was the mujaheddins, as well as Noriega, Pinochet, Hussein installed by CIA for one purpose only. To serve. Semper fi.

Why Blair participates in the ”cruissade” I can understand. Damn afghans, he thought, finally I´ll show them who is the boss. This pananglosaxon party is clear to me. But why is UN so kind in their judgement? Does it have anything to do with promisses about regulation of US debt? And why ere all other western so called democraties peeing in their pants?
I dont know. I dont like them anyway. Their ”template” of global liberal economy destroys our world as we know it, producing poverty, ecological disasters and hate.
That at least notices Jerry Useem of Fortune. ”The biggest threats to globalisation are from those who feel they don´t have a stake in it.” Well I dont.

Thats why Pascal Lamy, the EU bureaucrate, wants to hide together with the rest of his pals somewhere in Quatar. After Seatle riots and Gothinburg and Genova shootings WTO needs a place deserted and distant in order to feel safe. So what if they dig themself down in the sand. I have a shovel…

    Lets dig them dinos out!

Thats a risk we all r about to take by leting triggerfingered nationalists plague the world. US gives rifles to your enemy and hopes they will point them in "right" direction. If its in US interest then we´ll b dead - eventually.

They blame the left for Pol Pot because Pol Pot WAS a leftist. He was an authoritarian one and probably suited the US just fine.

It didn't always matter whether or not the government was left or right wing. All that mattered was what served US interest.

How could any1 tell PolPot was leftist. If he was it must be a paradoxal one... I mean even if the red khmer collective owned all means, they never let it serve the masses as they shoud. I guess they did choose colour red because they where found in bloodshed.

Marx predicted his arrival on the seen. He is not amused at all by his crude levelling down of people. He is abhorred by it. I cant remember where I found the relevant quote.
Man's dearest possession is life, and since it is given to him to live but once.He must so live that dying he can say, all my life and all my strength have been given to the greatest cause in the world, the liberation of mankind
    Ostrovski

    Muriel Spark:

If I had my life to live over again I should form the habit of nightly composing myself to thoughts of death. I would practice, as it were, the remembrance of death. There is no other practice which so intensifies life. Death, when it approaches, ought not to take one by surprise. It should be part of the full expectancy of life. Without an ever-present sense of death life is insipid. You might as well live on the whites of eggs.

Fortune is bullshit. America has some great magazines and newspapers, but the problem is that they're all underground and independent so they're very hard to get in other parts of the world. The best American tabloid to pick up is Weekly World News.
