BBC NEWS

The former presidents of three Eastern European countries have launched a campaign calling for the peaceful overthrow of Cuba's communist government.

In a letter sent to several leading newspapers internationally, Vaclav Havel of the Czech Republic, Lech Walesa of Poland and Arpad Goencz of Hungary said European countries should set up a fund to help opposition groups within Cuba.

The three, all of whom were dissidents when their countries were ruled by communist regimes, said President Fidel Castro's regime was "at its last gasp" and compared its situation to Eastern Europe in the late 1980s.
Facing an economic downtown and growing discontent, the Cuban Government in March arrested 75 members of opposition groups.

But the former presidents said in their letter that the dissident movement had not been adversely affected.

"The internal opposition is getting stronger, it has not been brought to its knees by the police round-up last March, times are changing, the revolution is getting old and the regime is getting nervous," they said.

"Fidel Castro knows well that one day the revolution will die with him."

Yeah, but for how long, perhaps 3-5years.Raul is only 3 years younger then Fidel
After raul dies it will be very intersting to see how things ''pan'' out in Cuba.

Good luck to Cuba, never let the revolution die.
All the same, nevertheless, there's a point.

they say that the revolution was a great succes because of fidel so we've goth to hope that the revolution never dies and I'm shure that the revolution is not gona fall.
We consider that the Cuban Revolution contributed three fundamental lessons to the conduct of revolutionary movements in America. They are:
1. Popular forces can win a war against the army.
2. It is not necessary to wait until all conditions for making revolution exist; the insurrection can create them.
3. In underdeveloped America the countryside is the basic area for armed fighting.

If the americans ever invaded cuba I for one would go and defend the revolution with my life if it came to it. one by one every left wing country has succombed to imperialism. Cuba is one of the last nations that is free from imperialism, and if the cuban government falls, it will be a major blow to leftists everywhere. the buck stops here! socialismo o muerte! :cuba:
"Cuba is one of the trenches of freedom in the world. Situated a few steps from U.S. imperialism, we have shown by our actions, our daily example, that in the present conditions a people can liberate themselves and keep themselves free" Ernesto Che Guevara

It seems that Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland have more unemployment than Cuba, and less life expectancy.

Of course we cant compare this countries because their situation is different, but comparing Cuba to other caribbean countries you see the difference. Compare it with Dominican Republic (not sure if it is a good comparison anyway).

Cuba lacks a good economy but has good social progress, which is more important in my oppinion.

The Eastern European countries that used to part of the Soviet bloc are now becoming the biggest whores to the United States. Many of the governments in Eastern Europe supported Bush's war on Iraq this year. There has to be political pressure on that part of the world to support the United States' stubborn foreign policy, in this case, the biggest thorn in the side of American imperialism--the Cuban Revolution.

Yes, we all have to remember the timeless words of the U$ govt. They are part of the "New Europe" right? New meaning totally subserviant to the U$ wishes.

I'm sure if someone were to dig, there is a tidy little money trail to this group and probably promises of loans etc.
Verily poor as we are in democracy, how can we give of it to the world? A democracy conceived in the military servitude of the masses, in their economic enslavement, and nurtured in their tears and blood, is not democracy at all
