I'm in the mood for a good documentary so I was just wondering if you all had any recommendations for good documentaries on socialism or socialist leaders? Even though I do not agree with him at all, I'd be very interested in learning more about Mao or Maoism.

Rather than some pedantic study of -isms or Great Individual™ bio-flick you may be more inspired by seeing labor struggle in action. With that in mind: Harlan County, USA is one of the finest films, let alone documentary, ever made. A more recent effort called the Take shows attempts at direct action and self-management.
