Gosh, I never expected THAT to happen in a war! I don't know if it's true, but I heard that over 5,000 civilians were killed in an attack on the World Trade Center. Sounds like propaganda though...

Well it seems that despite the painstaking efforts that the US has made to avoid civilian casualties they happened. At least we make the effort. More than any can say for any other nation in the world, save other capitalist democracies in western europe.

Yeah, and I'm sure they've targeted the orphanage next. What evil will they think of next?

i don't know how many of you are familiar with the rules of international humanitarian law, but there is often a reason why hospitals are bombed etc. i am not condoning what the US is doing i'm just giving you a different perspective. all of you are aware of the fact that i am 100% against the current war.

under humanitarian law it is illegal to bomb places such as hospitals. however, in situations where it is tactical and a very military important target then it ispossible to bomb places which may (or are definately) going to result in the loss of human life. the key is that the military importance of the target must be greater proportionally than the loss ofhuman life. Thus, in war, states (if it is a war between states) often shelter wounded, homeless people in militarily tactical places in hopes that the other side won't bomb them because there are so many civilians. naturally they do and then the state cries for justice.

    just FYI

I think the Americans simply don't see that it's wrong to
    use weapons against the terrorists!!!
They are too stupid!! You can't start a "war", hoping
the thing you receive by doing so is peace!!
If only one innocent life has to end in order to kill/capture ten terrorists it is not worth to do that!!!
By killing innocent people the Americans are as bad as Bin Laden!!
    I think
Fighting for peace is like fucking for virginity!!!!

Four UN workers killed in American attacks. Hmm. Wonder if that is going to get the UN behind this. Can Bush say "oops".

"In the first casualty reports to emerge from Afghanistan, the Taliban ambassador to Pakistan, Abdul Salam Zaeef, said 20 civilians had been killed, including women, children and the elderly."
Oh, well if the Taliban ambassador to Pakistan says it, then it must be true.

Well, first of all I would think that when a hospital gets bombed in a country as poor as Afghanistan there would be more casualties. As for the UN workers, that has been verified I believe. Correct me if I am wrong. Not that I doubt you would.

The Taliban are evil. They are not the great good fighting for freedom against the great evil of American imperialism, they are against everything the left stands for, Human Rights, Gender Equality, Seperation between Church and State.

BUT bomb the Taliban not the civilians, Bomb the Taliban bases, Bomb their HQ building, Bomb their planes, send a few hitmen to put a few 9mm holes in the heads of some of their high level members, Go in and arrest their leaders and try them as war criminals. They're worse than Milosevic and he's gone to The Hague.

Oh the Hospital bombing thing was bad.

Same thing happened when they bombed Yugoslavia. They bombed the Yugo car factory and put them out of business. They bombed the Chinese embassy (except I reckon that might have been deliberate.) And they bombed a hospital (which had wounded soldiers in it as well.) I don't think their such a thing as smart bombs.

Why debate the merits of bombing this versus bombing that? There is no such thing as a 'just' war or 'justifiable' killing.
It cannot but be supportive, socialist, communist or whatever you want to call it. Does nature, and the human species with it, have much time left to survive in the absence of such change? Very little time. Who will be the builders of that new world? The
