CNN NO PLACE FOR RUSH LIMBAUGH
    August 14, 2001

Feminist activists and other progressives are now faced with what could be the scariest media merger yet: CNN and Rush Limbaugh.

CNN has acknowledged that it is in discussion with radical right-wing radio host Rush Limbaugh for a program on the news channel. USA Today reports that Limbaugh confirmed that he is "listening" to what CNN has to offer.

Limbaugh recently renewed the contract for his radio show in what insiders say is the biggest deal in radio syndication history—worth nearly $300 million. And now CNN wants to help make Limbaugh even more rich, while bringing his bigoted ravings to the cable news market.

CNN has been taking some hits lately from the FOX News Channel and its cozy relationship with the Bush administration. Many of those in politics and the media view CNN as the liberal news channel and FOX as the conservative one. FOX, with a straight face, offers up its right-wing hosts and attitude as "fair and balanced." The FOX News Channel has grown over the last several years, due in part to it's increasing availability on cable systems around the country, while CNN's viewership has declined slightly. Many think CNN could be chasing bigger ratings through controversial names like Limbaugh.

Let CNN know that they don't have to sink to the level of FOX to win viewers. There is still a place for responsible journalism on TV and Rush Limbaugh is neither responsible nor a journalist. Countless articles and books have discounted many of his supposedly "factual" statements and, as you can see by the quotes below, Limbaugh is vicious and bigoted. He once argued with an on-air caller who said the African-American community must be heard: “Why does it have to be heard? They are 12% of the population — who the hell cares?”

The failures of Dr. Laura Schlesinger's recent TV show and Rush's own syndicated TV show point to the shaky transition of right-wing rhetoric from radio to television. Tell CNN that if they are looking for a well-known personality to host a political show, they might consider NOW's immediate-past president Patricia Ireland, or any number of people with insightful comments on the issues important to their viewers. CNN's image will forever be tarnished by giving someone like Limbaugh an even bigger microphone.

    The words of Rush Limbaugh:

"A feminazi is a woman to whom the most important thing in life is seeing to it that as many abortions as possible are performed."

"What if a man claimed the right to rape, using the same principle found in the theory that it is his body and he has the right to chose?"

"The poor in this country are the biggest piglets at the mother pig and her nipples. The poor feed off the largess of this government and they give nothing back. Nothing."

"The Native Americans were meaner to themselves than anybody else was ever mean to them. The people were savages."

"There is only one way to eliminate nuclear weapons. Use them."

Remember that book that came out a few years ago? " Rush Limbaugh is a big fat idiot and other obvious facts."
He's not fat now.... but he's still an idiot.

BTW... Patricia Ireland is a great public speaker... I saw her talk about the Clinton scandle some years ago (before it actualy came out he did have an affair) And I thought she was great, and made perfect sence.

Red, how many righties have you actually hung around with or spent a considerable amount of time with? Rush is their national spokesman. They almost invariably tune him in and turn him on all over America. I wouldn't be surprised if he won as a write in someday. I doubt that he would ever have the balls to take the position and put all his theories to the test.

PS- NOW is his personal crusade. He hates them with a passion and is ALWAYS attacking them.

Hmmm...well...if you don't like Limbaugh, change the channel.

But yanno, there is no channel that's really "Liberal", so I don't see why there shouldn't be a direct response to FOX...ehehe.

Yea.. .When I was in the Navy they used to play his show on the radio in my shop. And I don't " hang around" with any righties, but where I live is particularly more right than most of NY. So I'm fully aware of how the guy is their hero. And yea, I sure has enough support to win an election if he ever decided to run wich I seriously doubt, as he's just full of hot air.

The thing about Fox news is that although they are defineately a conservative right-wing show, they do have a show called Hannity and Combs that shows both sides. I must say however that our side is seriously disadvantaged with their chosen leftist.

Ah. Well, I guess I don't care for him too much. Honestly, I like the other one better. Although I'd love to punch his lights out sometimes.

I agree that they need a stronger represenative though. But on FOX? Who would it be?

oh yea... Dennis Miller Is leftist ( compaired to Rush that is ) ha... but heck... I 've heard some stuff from george Carlin that I haven't heard from any other leftist comic...

As a matter of fact... George had in one of his acts... made fun of magazines... and said why don't homeless people have a magazine? Heck man.....everyone has a magazine now days.... the homeless should have one too.. " Better Crates and cartons".... heck they even have a magazine called "Walking" ... "Walking"... Can you imagine that? " Here's a good article Bob... putting one foot in front of the other!"...

And to tell you the truth.... to this day I thought George was pulling my leg when he said there was a magazine called walking... well I saw it.... in the magazine rack in the supermarket today! And I thought... " Holy shit! I just posted something about George Carlin on Che-Lives and this magazine is exactly what I was going to make fun of!....

Another one of his jokes was making Golf courses into low income housing developments.... which I agree with!..... Shit man.. Golf is just a sport for old guys who like to put on funny cloths... why should they get all that land?....

yea... well I think SNL has always had a "leftist" tint to it... They didn't take much of a position last week however. ... huh... actualy as I'm writing this I realized I just missed this week's snl... which means... yea... I watch it every third month or so... lol... but yea your right.. quite a few comics take the leftist position...

Talking about this..... I think it''s truly disturbing how they have portrayed Bill Marr ( how's his last name spelled?) as an evil person just for voicing opinions that have even been shown on this bb!! Sorry,, I'm not a libritarian as Bill is, but shit man.... the guy has a right too speakk his mind!

Dennis Miller makes jokes about the death penalty and uses it to advance an elitist point of view.

Carlin's latest book is old age curmudgeon right-wing.

Want a lefty comic? What about Bill Hicks? Dead and gone, but still remembered.

Economists have provided capitalists with a comforting concept called the "free market." It does not describe any part of reality, at any place or time. It's a mantra conveniently invoked when it is proposed that government do something the faithful don't like, and just as conveniently ignored whenever they want government to do something for them.

Altough He'd never run I'd like Rush become president just so all those that blindly follow the man see him destroy this country. In my opinion If Rush ever did become president we would see the fall of the Roman Empire all over again.

Yes, Dennis Miller is for the death penalty. I DID say he was a moderate. As for George Carlin. Right-Winged? Where? When? HOW? By whose standards? He doesn't have to agree with everything on the left to be part of it.

Yes, Bill Hicks is Leftist and I bet Eddie Izzard is too.
