    Default Ralph Miliband's Marxism

Although I disagree with many of the British SWP's theoretical positions, such as labelling the PRC as a "state-capitalist" state, they do produce some good quality and interesting analysis. (Not that I agree with them completely of course) Here is an interesting article on the Marxist ideas of Ralph Miliband, father of current Labour Party leader Ed Miliband:

    The joke goes like this:

"Ralph Miliband argued that the Labour Party would never deliver socialism for the working class.

Now his son has become Labour leader in order to prove it!"

The article claims that Ed Miliband used to tag along with his dad to the debates with the SWP. How soon before the cpgb's Weekly Worker is blaming the SWP for the dire state of Ed's politics?

The piece is pretty OK. A few bits got my back up (the way belated debates on Comintern policy (yawn) and the smears at Deutscher).

I was looking for something else entirely on the British Labour Party in the 60s and 70s, but this 1984 piece by Milliband and Marcel Liebman on anti-Communism is worth a read: http://www.marxists.org/archive/mili...x/anticomm.htm

    Let's hope not.

Ralph Miliband certainly had some flaws, but he was a great Marxist theorist of the 20th century.

Too bad his unfillial sons Ed and David couldn't follow their father's glorious mandate.
