I think it was one of Obama's best speeches so far. His calls for immigration reform, investment in future tech, ending subsidies for oil companies, not signing any bills containing earmarks (notice McCain was hopping up and down after that lol), and especially the specific goals of 98% high speed internet access within 5 years, access for 85% of americans to high speed rail in 25 years, 85% of energy from clean sources by 2035, and a million electric cars on the road by 2015. Will it happen? Most likely not but it was still good to hear numbers and not some visionary, out on the horizon bs.

i heard the speech yesterday, Obama is indeed a good speaker.

But every 10 minutes he made me frown beccause he was just talking bullshit.

trying to justify the destruction of the manufacturing industry on the evolution of technology was one major bullshit.

Even the Republicans know that all those job where shipped in China.

    Fluff.
I was intrigued at the part where he talked about more transparency in regards to taxpayer funds, though. He said he wants to set up a system in which anyone can go online and see where their taxpayer money is going. And then he said that he wants to require congressmen and congresswomen to make it public any time they are meeting with a lobbyist. I'd be interested to see if that will happen or not.

Of course it sounds good and of course he speaks well! He's the best actor that the Democrats could find, and he has been written a fine script!

There's a reason a lot of actors become politicians.

I was at work, didn't see it. Not that I wanted too, kind of anticipated what he would talk about anyways.

Come to think of it I don't think I've watched a state of a union in their entirety before. I usually read summaries afterwards.

I like this idea, but he proposed this some time ago, and it still hasn't happened, so I'm somewhat sleptical.

Nothing will happen, except for the Austerity.

The infestructure won't happen, they won't fight for it, stopping oil subsidies? Don't make me laugh, do you think Obama will lift a finger for that? Whats infuriating is his explanation for outsourcing ... technology, really? So the answer is make the US the "Best place to do buisiness" which is code for, sell out to corporations MORE, Not a mention of trade policy and destruction of unions, which is what really caused all this mess.

He talks about competing with China, but he's gonna fire teachers, who already have it really hard.

The extra spending won't happen, he lost all credibility with the public option, and the last nail was driven in with the tax deal.

High speed internet might happen in the form of a handout to big telecom, but it won't come with net neutrality, or anything that protects the free speach on the internet.

    More Pro-buisiness anti-worker nonsense.

Hes trying to play the establishment.

Oh and the corporate tax cuts will pass, which will do nothing for the economy whatsoever.

When he was going on and on about improving education to compete with China & India I was hoping so much that he would mention establishing some kind of national standard for K-12 schools. Even if he didn't make good on the promise, just his mentioning it might have encouraged discussion on the topic.
