i was watching the news last night....
some US official was stating that the taliban has no chance or something.
they have outdated equipment, old ak-47's, a few tanks, some old migs, etc.
what do you think? will the taliban be able to fight?
i am not supporting niether side. just asking.

They have an intimate knowledge of the terrain of the religion, the Taliban militia has experience fighting the old Soviet forces in the same places.
They currently have the advantage of numbers.
Yes, their equipment is outdated, yes the US has greater economic might. But since when did this stop people resisting the US and it's lackies? remember, Che held out for almost 2 years in Bolivia against superior numbers and technology, and he didn't even have support from the majority of the people there. Guerillas with support and resources (remember, the Taliban can rely on a LOT of funds from groups like Bin Laden's), and especially experience, can do a hell of a lot.
If the US goes for all out war in afghanistan it will be another Vietnam, you can bet on it.

good point. they have beaten two superpowers (england at the time, and the USSR)
they know the terrain as you pointed out.
so basically yes, this could be another vietnam.
usa has lots of firepower now than in vietnam.
    BOOM...

poeple have been trying to take afghanistan for years and failed but that was when technology was weak no look at it but they will fight hard and kill more than they lose in my opinion they are an army with a heart not an army with orders so they will fight to the end which is a true advantage

smth about AK-47...when u say that it is old i think u mean that AK is some piece of metal
no..if we compare AK-47 and M-16 in Vietnam war we'll see that AK is more reliable,it never brakes(i can't say so about M-16)and this uses 7,62 bullets...and 30 bullets is better than 20(mean NATO 5,56 clip)
they also have "GRAD"(if americans do little stupid thing they'll lose many people...
if americans didn't help Afghans during the first war (soviet) there won't be world terrorism now(at least like we have now)they've only thought how to destroy USSR,they did it and got an answer from terrorists on 11th of Sept.

I personnally don't think that the Afghans will be able to win out right (there are no winners in war, but anyway) they will give the Americans a seriously bloodied nose. The fighters now the terrain, they have internal support (on the news they say that the government is hated, but the resistance movement is only 10,000 strong) and the soldiers have no fear of death.

I read an article written by an SAS commando who went to Afghanistan during the soviet invasion to train the soldiers, and he was amazed by the risks that they took. They have the belief that as soon as they enter the army to fight in a jihad, they are dead. They have no fear if death, if they die they become a martry, they get to live with Allah in eternal paradise and live in luxury that words can not describe. If they die then their families are not distraught, but proud because their son has down the family proud. If the son does survive the jihad then they have to come back a hero. This is similar to the believes in the Spartan army.

As a result of this the war/battle/conflict will be drawn out and a war of attrition for America and a lot of soldiers will be coming home in body bags.

    When you're wounded and left.
    On Afghanistan's plains,
    And the women come out.
    To cut up your remains,
    Just roll on your rifle,
    And blow out your brains,
    And go to your Gawd,
    like a soldier.

"This is similar to the believes in the Spartan army. "

Yea, look where it got Sparta. Sure, they stopped Persia from conquering Greece, but they are no longer in existance.

Unless you consider anything(in MODERN Greece) to the south of Corinth to be Sparta.

I think that the battle will be long, but I think the US will be able to win.

    It just won't be easy.

"I" did not refer the taliban as terrorists. but guess who does? and yes the AK-74 IS better, (newer model, small calibre but great power, etc)
just the old time AK-47 is the grandfather of kalashinokov assault rifles.

Well, the Taliban are not responsible for what happened on the 11th, but they're responsible for other horrific things.

I'm surprised invading Afghanistan to get rid of the Taliban didn't happen sooner.

as i see it, any weapon that is "better" is worse because it kills more people faster and more efficiently. that's bad.
