From day 1 there has been one suspect ONLY - Monsieur Bin Laden. Please enlighten me people, is he in fact the only terrorist leader in the world? Even if not, does every terrorist act only go ahead with his say so? The US has not even considered any other individual or group on planet Earth - not even the CIA.

Also, what about the annoying matter of EVIDENCE?! Yes, how unreasonable of the Taliban to require some!

Well of course none of us have seen the evidence... and can only take their word for it... but the do say they have overwelming evidence that links the terrorists to him. Also he is wanted for other attacks anyway that have been linked to him.

If he was already wanted then why did they not go after him then?
it still has not been absolutely proven that he is responsible.

i think they have been trying to get him for a while, just not as much as they should have. if i remember right, the u.s. had bin laden at one point but Afghanistan wouldnt let them leave the country with him or something.

    i may be wrong

the us is claiming that the evidence overwhelmingly points to bin laden. however, as i have mentioned in numerous other threads, the evidence the public has been made aware of seems extremely suspect

the only evidence found is highly circumstantial and links a small few of the pilots to bin laden's organisation al qaida. this is not enough to directly implicate bin laden because al qaida is a very loose organisation with no internal structure. its members consist of individuals who are only inspired by bin laden and not necessarily commanded directly by him. it is possible that a few of these individuals carried out the attacks without bin laden's consent or even awareness, but this will not stop the americans persuing bin laden because it fulfils so many of their objectives in the middle east besides removing their public enemy no1 from the international arena, the justification of american military presence in the middle east, the forging of stronger links with moderate middle eastern states such as iran and the overthrow of the taliban regime being three of them.

for all we know, al qaida may not exist.. at least not as we percieve it... the only thing al qaida surely is is that it was a training camp where bin laden trained mujahideen against ussr ... i believe that bin laden now is just like goldstein and al qaida is like the brotherhood, both form Orwel's 1984... more or less...

    Exactly gooddoctor.

Bin Laden is on his way to becoming a matyr, thanks to the US - then we will see the rise of his ideology beyond anything that exists now.

That is a good point there... this whole thing is a powder keg just waiting for the US to ignite the fuse of a much larger and zelous holy war. If the US has such mounting evidence against him as they claim they do... then shouldn't they be able to instrument some international court of law, that can prove his gult in this and many other acts they claim on him? That seems a more rational approach, and one that should convince everyone, and give the proof that Afghanistan requires.

Right now, we are assuming his guit without properly giving him any formal trial. The US has tried several approches to apprehend him and also to kill him. They destroyed a camp they thought he was in... but he had left it just before.

exactly redceltic. that's why i believe that there must be something more to this. head's of government should be stronger than this and less emotional. a lot of the initial shock and anger has withered away amongst the public and most non-right-wingers are beginning to think more clearly. this whole american pie good versus evil bullshit just isn't credible anymore - there's something behind it.

call me a far out conspiracy theorist, but i am still not convinced he is the main man behind all of this. the u.s.a supposedly says that bin laden claimed responsibility for the embassy bombings so why the hell wouldnt they go after him then? i think blowing up embassies a fairly large feat and i wouldnt imagine they would let someone who did that run free. i find it interesting that the media has not played the supposed tapings from the flights where they say a man with an arabic accent talks into the mic warning about a bomb, why havnt they played the real audio instead of just the words? the media has also shown images of muslims celebrating supposedly in support of what happened but yet most of those images are from 8 -9 years ago. the media is ridiculous i understand that perhaps that have previous evidence on him, but as ffor this case i dont know how good it is. and for those wondering if someone is worse then bin laden a man by the name of ramzi yousef is probably the king pin of terrorism hes imprisoned now, but he was the one who originally tried to blow up the trade centers, he also planned to blow up 11 planes over the pacific loaded with chemical agents.

DaNatural i agree i too dont believehe did it ok this playing the stock market business and making a profit by and ripping peple off by selling shares just before the wtc was attacked could be true but it is still only circumstancial sadman insane is just as capable. the thing i dont like is the books in the car why would a perfectly planned operation like this be so sloppy as to leave a flight manual in arabic in a car next to a quran.

capturing him would be no simple matter though,, and no matter what happens this could easily be used for propaganda by supporters.

The Taliban have said that they will hand over bin Ladan if the evidence clearly points to it being him. This sounds quite resonable and not asking for too much because the American government claim to have mountains of evidence that supports the claim. But america refuses to budge, the Taliban even suggested giving the evidence to a neutral government and letting them decide, and any verdict they give they would follow. To me this seems very reasonable but the american government said no. Is this because they have no evidence at all to support their claim or are they hiding something, or are they just being a stubborn bunch of bastards??

Exactly! For days now I've been watching the spokesman for the Taliban saying the same thing in a calm, reasonable way - not without evidence! Simple concept one would have thought.

Please note - the above comment does not indicate that I support the Taliban in any way, shape or form! But I know reason when I hear it.

there is another leader of world terrorism,he is a redneck living in washington d.c,he should be brought to justice first. Also bin laden,i think deserves some admiration, for he has given up a privlaged life style to live in caves and used his vast fortune for his cause, and i admire him for that, but if he was responsible for the horrific attack on the WTC then he should be punished in an international court,as the stupid redneck asys ''this is an attack on the world''

to me its action against all islamic resistance... good (hizbullah, al-jihad, fat'h, etc. which r fighting israel), or bad (at least as perceived by the world, like al-qaida)... just take a look at the list... its like 99 (if not 100)% composed of islamic resistance movements... this will be a giant step for american imperialism...
bin laden made his goals clear on several occasions, he wants to remove the american troops from his homeland (saudi arabia) and then overthrow the government... i just wish he could remove them from here too... however, i do fear him overthrowing the government, cuz i do not support extremism (i dunno if thats even a word)...
also i personally dont think that he planned this whole thing.... maybe it is some ppl from al-qaida.. maybe it was the cia... hell maybe it was the guy next door... at this stage, i dont think anyone knows...
