This Saturday, October 16, people from all over Chicago and the Midwest will be meeting at 12:30 pm at the corner of Michigan and Congress in downtown Chicago and marching up Michigan Avenue in a permitted mass demonstration.
Dozens of antiwar, antiracist and social justice groups have been organizing for this important day of action that is the culmination of activities in October all across the U.S. on the 9th Anniversary of the Afghanistan war. (Scroll down to see the list of endorsing groups)
ANSWER volunteers in Chicago and throughout the Midwest have passed out tens of thousands of leaflets and continue to do everything they can to bring as many people out into the streets to march together for jobs, education, equality and an immediate end to the occupations of Afghanistan, Palestine and Iraq ... and much more.
The majority of the people of the U.S. have made it clear that they want change. The unending wars; the jobs crisis; the massive bailout of the banks; the attacks on education; the attacks on unions; the BP oil spill; and the rise of racism and bigotry against immigrants, Muslims and people of color are all clear signs that real change is needed now. The vast majority of people need something completely different than what we're getting from Washington and local governments.
Real change has always been made in the streets by mass movements struggling for justice. Racist laws and organizations can be defeated. Wars can be brought to an end. Jobs can be won. The environment can be cleaned up. Healthcare and education can be free. Equality can be won. If the people of the U.S. were to join together in struggle, we could break up the status quo and make real, lasting change. Let's make October 16 as big and as successful as possible. Join us as we help build a mass movement for jobs, equality and peace!
