Text cursor is jumping when I type - Help!!

So just recently my text cursor (the one that blinks when you type) has been randomly jumping to other parts of my text when I type, causing me to have to go back and fix it. It's really goddamn annoying. In fact it did it twice when typing this post. I'm not touching the touchpad either - I'm typing the exact same way that I did before when it didn't jump.

It just started about a week ago... I don't remember if I installed any Windows updates or not.


I'm using an older HP Pavilion laptop running Vista 32-bit.


If anyone could help me with this I'd be very appreciative.

It sounds like a hardware problem. I had an old mouse once that would have a freakout every few days, randomly jumping all over the screen for a few seconds. If I had to guess, I would say that your problem is your touchpad. To confirm this, you can try disabling your touchpad in the device manager to see if it is indeed the culprit.

hey khad you know what? I think that worked! I've just been typing random thoughts on both word and here in the reply box (just in case it was a browser thing), and it hasn't jumped around yet.
