    Default Extent of "Communism" maps...?

So, im doing a project and one of the things I have been looking for is a map of the extent of communism.

I mean this in the sense like, from the Soviet Union all the way to countries africa allied with it.

I also remember seeing a map showing how it spread from the U.S.S.R to its maximum extent.

Anyone have any good resources on mpas like these?

I remember seeing one on wikipedia (yuck), but here you go,

These are states that have listed themselves as Marxist in some way or another in their history.

There are also a host of other states that also declared themselves to be socialist in some form or another, not always in the Marxist sense.

Hey, thanks for that map! It is really nice.

Also, do you know the names of all of the red marked on the map?

(Bonus points if you group them into geographical categories!)

Color coded by date. Doesn't include some countries that consider/ed themselves "socialist."

Soviet Union, Bulgaria, Romania, Yugoslavia (Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia, Kosovo), Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Poland, East Germany.

China, Mongolia, North Korea, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Afghanistan, South Yemen.

    Nicaragua, Cuba.

Benin, Congo, Ethiopia, Somalia, Angola, Mozambique.

That, of course, being if you define "Communism" in the loosest, most right wing way. For instance, states that have claimed to be "Socialist" would include Portugal and Sudan.....you can see how "socialist" those are.

Take a world Map, and color the whole thing red. Say that at some point in history, people lived there where everything was held in common, and there was no state. Primitive Communism. Our own ancestors were communists!

There is also a map on Wikipedia that has a number of states which declared themselves to be "socialist" in some form.

The image I NAIH posted is a map of those that declared themselves to be Marxist. Whether they were actually such is up to you.

For one thing we have both Somalia and Ethiopia on there, both of which got into a war where the USSR supported Ethiopia with the USA supporting Somalia.

Take a look at NAIH's map too because not all these countries were Marxist at the same point. Some had short life spans. The lighter the color the shorter they lasted.

I think that Burkina Faso should be included in that map too. The country had a Marxist government between 1983 to 1987. You also have countries that never decleared themselves to be people's republic or bullshit like that, but had Marxist or quasi-Marxist governments. For instance, you got Chile under Salvador Allende, who wanted to achieve "scientific Marxism".

In the image of their states though, they still remained in the framework of a liberal state. Allende while being a Marxist did not transform Chile into a socialist state- he was overthrown and nothing came of it. Same goes for Sankara, trying to affect change in the society to transform it into a revolutionary state but getting killed before they could do so.

BTW, here's a "complete list of communist and socialist governments/states" that you may find useful: http://www.revleft.com/vb/showpost.p...4&postcount=21

For the record, I now would make several changes to that original list I created.
