As an Australian, I too feel that our 'leaders' are merely reationary. We must accept that politicians are generally reactionary (when publicly elected), and that policy is generally directed at maintaining or generating votes.
Without rational evaluation of foreign policy by the general public, we will continue to be subjected to reactionary politics.
What am I saying? That we are all responsible for our politicians. If your or my president/prime minister blindly support Mr Bush's "Good verses Evil" rhetoric, then we have ourselves to blame. They are reacting to our families, friends and neighbours opinions, and a history of apathy.
