the death of those many innocent civilians is a tragedy, but this will help the american people learn what their government has done in the past, they will see what the u.s. government has done to others through the suffering of their fellow americans, as we are all aware of this country's previous atrocities (hiroshima, nagasaki, dresden, philippines, cuba, panama, iraq and a fucking shitload of others), through the events that occured today the american people will learn not to eagerly rally any military action the gov't wants us to support, today we must mourn the dead, tomorrow we will question what were the previous occurrences that lead up to this event, and from now on we will resist and refuse any call for violence that will deprive another human being of life and liberty.

filimarxist ... what you have described is the ideal - honest analysis and improvement in the traditional Marxist autocritica style. The reality is, I'm afraid, far, far from this - note the anthems, flags, religion, rhetoric, cliches etc that everyone is running to in order to feel comforted. This type of behaviour marks the average human - not, unfortunately, reason and honesty.
It cannot but be supportive, socialist, communist or whatever you want to call it. Does nature, and the human species with it, have much time left to survive in the absence of such change? Very little time. Who will be the builders of that new world? The
The Amerikan people, at the end of the day, incredibly believe the government is protecting their security. They are for the most part politically unimformed of the world around them and trust in the proxy of their elected representatives and leaders to take care of foreign affairs. The support behind the invasion of Afghanistan is probably close to 85-90% The Bush polls currently have his leadership abilities at 78% Most Ameikans are not the least bit interested in what goes on outside the domestic front.

I agree Ampere - but don't you think that in order for capitalism to function properly, it requires the mass populace to be ignorant of the realities of politics and ideology?
Capitalism in itself provides the major distraction from anything that is truly important in life, thus serving the dual purpose of keeping people ignorant and conditioning them to feed the market so it will continue to grow.

I agree with what your're saying. And the Amerikan people like it like that. They don't want to deal with the outside troubles - that's what the leaders are for. It's as if last week it just occurred to them that bad things actually do happen in the world. They are reeling with shock and fear, shitting in their pants, but yet they now feel they are a stronger United States united in this tragedy.... and didn't someone say patriotized? They are pulling behind this President Bush, all political persuasions. Another presidential term may already be in his pocket. Hopefully, like his father, he will lose favor from dumping the country into a war.

If the majority of the American populace was not awakened to the realities of their government's foreign policies by the Vietnam war, why will they wake up now? This will just see a strengthening of nationalism and the extreme Christian right.

while you guys are right that people for the most part will not learn anything from this, i have seen and heard more and more people ask "why?" and answer themselves that it is because of the u.s.'s foreign policies. i have seen this train of thought more than ever before....
