Questions About the State
1. In an anarchist country in a world where there are still capitalist countries, how would it defend itself cohesively if invaded?
2. In worldwide communism, is total abolition of the state really necessary, especially as we venture out into the universe?
(a little off topic) 3. Would scientific progress be important in a communist society, e.g. space exploration?
1. With an army. No state doesn't mean no army.
2. Basically. Socialism should make it totally obsolete.
3. I don't know about space exploration, which strikes me as a waste of money, but besides that, science would probably be the most important thing under communism.
Yes actually I have a quote to explain why science and human ingenuity are a staple of communist theory and human progress that results from a classless and free access society.

The idea being that once scientific exploration and personal inquiry is not a luxury to the bourgeoisie but to the entirety of society, there will not only be an explosion of creativity, but an explosion of progress and quality of life.
Chomsky notes that the existence of coercive institution, whether it be state or private ownership of the means of production, tremendously hinders progress and makes scientific discovery a convenience for only those wealthy or endowed enough to partake in it.
2. Well we are a fair distance away of bieng able to explore the universe. A state wont make it any easier or more difficult, technological advances will decide when/if we explore our solar system further. Anything beyond our solar system is well a fantasy at the moment, but like i said technolgical advances will decide.
3. Its important to everyone and so i would assume that anything that makes life easier for a worker would be highly desireable. Once money isnt a problem i feel scientific achivements will become more rapid and greater in scope.
Boboulas, you missed the point of my second question a bit.... I was inquiring if total abolition of the state is necessary.
With a well trained and armed populous, that's more or less just a national Militia. Kinda like Switzerland has.

Well, you do want a global, stateless, classless, moneyless society, don't you?
Call it what you will. A Peoples War with a libertarian tinge, workers militias, ect.
Its Necessary to abolish the state otherwise communism doesn't exist.
