    Default A little help please.

I am looking for a good introduction to feminism, from a Marxist perspective preferably. My girlfriend is troubled by events that happened a long while ago and I think that she could benefit from gaining an understanding of the oppression of women and how to fight against it.

She is not entirely political as it stands, so what can comrades recommend as a simple introduction to (Marxist) feminism.

I'm having a hard time thinking of a definitive text for an "introduction" to marxist feminism. Honestly though, I'd point her towards work from bell hooks (who is not necessarily outright "marxist," but most of feminist thought is either influenced by leftism or influences leftism), specifically Feminist Theory: From Margin to Center. It's concise and, in my opinion, is a nice overview of contemporary feminist thought.

You might want to check out Dorothy Smith's Feminism and Marxism: A Place to Begin, A Way to Go (1977). I've never read it, but from the title, it seems to be what you're looking for.

EDIT: I can't remember for certain but I think Patricia Hill Collins gives a nice critique of Smith's standpointism, particularly from an intersectional position between race and sex.

Feminism is for Everybody by bell hooks is probably the most radical and easy to read "Intro to Feminism" books out there.

If we have no business with the construction of the future or with organizing it for all time, there can still be no doubt about the task confronting us at present: the ruthless criticism of the existing order, ruthless in that it will shrink neither from its own discoveries, nor from conflict with the powers that be.
