i know i should have posted this a while ago but i'm really curious as to what people think of china being awarded the 2008 (i think) olympics. i know that they have a somewhat communistic structure which most of us look to, but they also have a terrible human rights record. look what china is doing to TIbet, killing not only their people, but hteir religion and culture and much much more. i'm just curious. yes i live near toronto canada that was beat out but i don't care. i would have been happy so long as china didn't get the olympics but they unfortunately did.

i can't even boycott the olypics because i dont' care for them anyway. what can we do to take away some of the capatalist advantages that naturally occur when the olympics come to town?

ps. i apologize if this is somewhat difficult to comprehend but i'm drunk. i'll edit in the morning.

i think, at least in the u.s., people view the olympics being in china as a symbol of capitalism overtaking communism, and that worries me.

I might be going to those if my coach lets me train C1 more than K1.

It depends. Some people reckon that their human rights might improve in order to make themselves appear a "good" place for the olympics. If it doesn't the olympic commitee might limit the squad like they did in Moscow and the canoe and kayak sprint team would be certainly be dropped. I think it dpends on what happens nearer the time.

no there's a difference between the German Olympics and these ones. The olympics were awarded to Germany before the Nazis took power but these have been awarded while the ragime is still in power but I can see your point.
