    Default Time banks?

I am hurting for cash right now. Surprise surprise right? Well everyone is, but I was looking at some alternative ways to get the things I need to survive. I fell across this thing called "time banking." The premise works like this, I use my skills to help out others and in exchange for one our of my labor I get what is called a 'time credit" which can be used for one hour of someone else's labor/skill. So for example I need five hours of roofing work done. I go to the time bank and give three hours of Spanish lessons and two hours of computer repair. I use my five hours worked to get the five hours of roofing repair that I need. Time hours are spent on a one-to-one ratio regardless of what you do.

I was just wondering what some of your thoughts on this is. Personally I think it might be a good idea because no money is involved and it is essentially a complex barter system. The central agency that runs time banks are community organizers and volunteers. They do not get paid. What I like is that your time credits can be accumulated for big things that cost thousands of dollars.

If you think it's stupid say so. If you think I'm a nut say so. I want honest opinions about this because I am considering doing this in my area.
