I presume you meant to ask, "which countries are communist?" Socialism implies some level of interplay with capitalism so we can safely say that China is indeed socialistic. What they have abandoned is the tenents of Marxism-Leninism-Maoism (Communism from my vantage point). So to answer your question which countries are socialist.......to some extent Sweden, Norway, the U.K.(?), Cuba, Viet Nam etc.....

I think however we're waiting for real communism to be tried but Cuba has given it a good shot considering the opposition it faces from the USA everyday.

    My country has an
    elected socialistic government.
    However, it is not
    purely socialistic,
it has a rather mixed economy.

    Vietnam applies the
    "market economy"
    which is another name
    forcapitalism.

Socialism isn't existing except in the utopias. However, many countries would be a lot worse if not socialism had been a factor in these countries evolution. I mean Cuba, Norway, Sweden, U.K....Hey! The whole world would be fascist if there were no socialists!
We are still waiting for a real socialist country.

According to the CIA world factbook it's officially China, Laos, Vietnam and Cuba that are "Communist States" and North Korea is a Socialist one man dictatorship.

I agree with gunnar that we are still waiting for a fully socialist country. I feel Cuba had come the closest to socialism, although I feel that in some ways now it is moving away from that direction. Of course, the CIA, in its infinite stupidity, has come up with another oxymoron, "Communist states." You can have communist societies, but I don't believe you can have states that are "fully" communist. Even if you could, all of those countries are so far away from communism, and even socialism, that it's a joke.

I do not think that Russia is a socialist country, but somebody believe that the communism is growing up there...I don´t know...
I am sure that in all countries where it was set the communism, it was necessary...communism has been an inmediatly absolution for the poor ones...
China goes to capitalism and this will bring horrible consecuences.
Bigger absolution is the least right one

I think that china ist still socialistic because the capitalism is only tested in some small areas around the big harbour cites in the southeast.

The ruling party in Mongolia is the MPRP which is a communist party, but there are other parties so it isn't like the Soviet Union was.

I don't think Angola and Algeria are communist anymore, Algeria is a fundamentalist state and Angola is in the middle of a civil war.

The Angolan civil war has just finished, with victory for communism, after 23 (?) years. From what I can make out, Angola seems to be genuinly communist.

Without getting too deep in the debate over whois socialist or communist and who isn't the following countries claim to be socialist:
    Angola
    Algeria
    North Korea
    Vietnam
    Mongolia (I think)
    Turkmenistan
    China
    Cuba
    Laos
    Romania (socialist ruling party)
    Cyprus (socialist ruling party)

Bet that's more than you thought

PS Hi, Jurhael, haven't seen you arouns in a while

The Brazilian socialist party is gaining more and more power as the population gets angrier at the New Economy fuckwads. The country isn't technically socialist and doesn't claim to be, but it might be socialist in a few years.

My sister wants to move there someday. She says it's her favorite country on the planet. (And she's been practically everywhere.) What better place to start a new socialist system than one of the most beautiful places in the world?

Brazil could be one of the most powerful economies in the world if they got their act together because it's so resource rich.
