It's a required course for all Pol Sci majors, so there was no getting around it. That my course adviser (who also happens to be one of my professors, and a socialist at that) described it as a waste of time class that had no business being taught in Pol Sci says volumes. And he's right.
It's basically a crash course in bourgeois ideology and a justification of the status quo regarding the government bureaucracy, property relations, and the capitalist division of labor. All the while, I gotta hear my professor patronize us about what we have to do to be successful out in the "real world." Half the time I'm facepalming at most of the shit I'm "learning" in that class.
Just today I learned that the lazy, unmotivated workers of an enterprise had to be monitored and punished by management into doing their work, while the energetic "ten percent" had to be given the most resources and positive attention so their productivity could increase. I was clenching my teeth all throughout. Yeah, I got to say my pro-worker piece a few times about this, but it doesn't matter. Most of the class appears to be set on a professional or managerial path, and buys into this bullcrap wholesale. One girl even said she would immediately fire all those unmotivated workers on the spot, not even giving them a chance at finding some way to motivate them. It made me so mad.
So yeah, bullshit class is bullshit.

Indeed, there is such a degree at my uni, which is what makes me having to take this class all the more infuriating. If I wanted to learn about Public Administration, I would become a Pub Admin major.

Usually, in America at least, poli sci and public administration go "hand-in-hand" a bit. My university I think puts them in the same college instead of placing poli sci in the college of arts and sciences with the rest of the social sciences.
Most people who take poli sci either aims to be a politician or ends up working in something where "public administration" will be "useful" like working at or running a NPO.

I am a poly sci major as well and I had to take a similar class. It should be extremely easy. If attendance is required then bring your ipod to class with you, or something to doodle on or something to read. Id attendance is not required then simply only show up for the exams and days papers are due.
Shit, I have never even heard of this class...
I am glad I am changing from a Politics and Government major oriented schedule towards a Pre-Law one next semester....
I considered a degree in Public Admin.
I wanted to work in the Federal Gov, I still kinda do...as a social worker.
In any case, fuck that girl who wanted to fire all those workers.
Maybe she can get a job with the Obama Administration.
That girl also happens to easily be the one who participates and speaks up the most in class. We get points for raising our hands and making a comment, so that's understandable, but this girl speaks up like, every ten minutes, every day. She probably has more points than the whole class combined.
Me? I could care less about that class and the material, so I don't speak that often, unless someone says something downright reactionary.
