It depends on how you define "revolutionary". Social democrats understand the reality of what humans want, and how the world works. You can't just change society with the click of a finger. You need to take your head out of books and open your eyes. Not everyone is interested in heavy ideology.

Yeah, of course. Lenin, Trotsky, Ho Chi Minh, Mao and Castro all just sat around and read books.

After decades of domination of most of the world by the Second International, capitalist exploitation and imperialist war is a thing of the past. Oh, wait.........

Must be something in the water, I think.

This is a ridiculous word game. The term "Social Democrat" has been used to describe all sorts of ideas from Lenin in the early 20th Century to George Meany. Many parties in the Socialist International are "Social Democratic" parties. The meaning of the term relates to the context and the country.
If you consider yourself socialists, why are you a member of the "Socialist International"? Their membership rolls are hardly parties I would associate with, from neoliberals to so-corrupt-they-are-practically-gangsters kind of parties. By that standard the DSA seem, if ineffectual, but pretty alright.

They were organising in completely different social conditions. Western Capitalism collapsed in 08 recession. There was a chance to do something different but they saved it before it was even allowed to fail.
