The U.S. House of Representatives lifted the ban for U.S. citizens to travel to Cuba yesterday. The decision was applauded by Cuba.
Let's hope that this is not the start for U.S. capital to infiltrate Cuba...

"The proletariat, when it seizes power [...] should and must at once undertake socialist measures in the most energetic, unyielding and unhesitant fashion, in other words, exercise a dictatorship, but a dictatorship of the CLASS, not of a party or of a clique -- dictatorship of the class, that means in the broadest possible form on the basis of the most active, unlimited participation of the mass of the people, of unlimited democracy." - Rosa Luxemburg

Cuba has open trade with Europe, South America, China, Africa, and the rest of the world.

Why would open trade with the U.S. matter?

The problem with Cuba's economy is due to Cuba - no one else is to blame, including the U.S.

Besides, El Che would want it this way. Communistic/ Dictatorship nations do not trade with Capitalistic/Democratic Nations.

    Hey there, Capitalist,

Were Cubans better off under Batista? Or has Castro improved the lot of most Cubans?

Remember now, Batista was fully backed by the USA.

Economists have provided capitalists with a comforting concept called the "free market." It does not describe any part of reality, at any place or time. It's a mantra conveniently invoked when it is proposed that government do something the faithful don't like, and just as conveniently ignored whenever they want government to do something for them.

Not to mention in the 60's, just about everything Cuba did was sabotaged by the US.

Cuba is #1 in human rights in Latin America and has the least amount of infant mortality rates. They have universal healthcare and are #1 in organinic farming.

As for trade, just how much DO the other countries trade with Cuba though? Many of these countries are also US allies, do you really think the US would tolerate other countries activly helping Cuba?

The Helms-Burton Act makes me think, ummm, not so much.
