"JOHN BROWN’S HOLY WAR"

The amazing life of one of America’s iconic historical figures, the 19th Century abolitionist John Brown, is chronicled in this honest and incisive documentary. The film tracks Brown’s life story from his childhood and early influences, through the bitter hardship of his loss of numerous family members, to his many financial failures and to his final destiny as an abolitionist revolutionary in the 1850s.

The film presents Brown’s life as a controversy, embodying the essential question of the moral efficacy of political resistance, violence and revolution. In doing so it examines Brown’s actions in the context of the violence and aggression of pro-slavery forces and ultimately of the moral travesty of slavery itself. 2000; 79 minutes
