Yes and yes. I got a friend to email me the article this time, but I want to figure out what is wrong, as this wasn't a problem two weeks ago. My tencho wizard best friend says it might be my anti-virus, but I am unable to figure out how to tell it to make an exception for jstor.

do you know where your cookies are stored? Try going there and seeing if there's one from jstore. I think they should be named after the websites they're for.

The other thing would be to see if your university has a proxy server you can log onto. Most universities offer these for off campus students, once you get the url in firefox you go to tools -> options -> advanced -> Settings and type in the proxy server url in "automatic proxy configuration". This allows you to access the same resources you could (and I imagine Jstor is included) as if you were on campus.

I had to log in to my schools library website to access jstor etc. from off campus.
Same. Still it brings up the cookie error message.

Is the proxy server the same as the library log in thingy?

Normally I would move this to Technical Support, but since it involves JSTOR I'm letting it stay![]()

I'm not sure about the details of your school. It's a little different depending on the school. Some school library logins try to automatically set up some sort of proxy, others just enable access to the catalog and such. In fact I suspect most libraries do the latter, you probably have to in some sense specifcally request the former to go through your library. The librarian at your school should know what to do.
Also read the "help" pages of the webmail hompeage that your university probably has. Anything that references a VPN ("Virtual Private Network") which is common with email accounts at organizations, should have the URL you need to use the proxy server.
Sorry about the belated response.
