I was thinking that since the Che site has a literature and music section, why not a Movies/Films Section?

Kind of a clearing house listing of good leftist movies and documentaries.

A few good ones that I can think of off hand are:

    Milagro Beanfield War
    Romero
    Fidel Castro (documentary)
    El Che (documentary)

stuff like this. Whatdya think? Anyone else care to add to the list? Or can we create a Subject folder?

    Good point!

I think the main problem is that there are relatively few leftist movies out there, so it's usually enough to just post movie threads in Chit Chat. Doesn't really do justice to Cinema as an artform, I'll give you that, but I just think a "Movies" forum would receive very limited use.

It could, however, be a good idea to make a sticky thread with a list of the best leftist movies! If we get a good list and maybe short reviews, I'd be more than happy to make a sticky thread out of it. It would probably be best to have it all put together first though.

Yeah, a sticky would be good. There are lots of films out there. I've seen bunches, topics like early union organizing, women suffrage, history of soviet union, cuba, etc. , civil rights....

    I almost forgot

    A Dry White Season
    Cry Freedom
    El Che (documentary)

anybody ever see the movie "The Mission"? There are more religious themes than socialist ones, however, the socialist themes are clearly evident. Also, it has Robert DeNero so its worth it for that reason alone.

a great socialist film is "land and freedom"
it is about the spanish civil war and shows how the stalinist betrayed the revolution.

john q is a great movie
It goes one for the student who refuses to submit and two for the teacher who is under-paid as shit, and three for the strikes who give young bloods life and four for the years you spent stifled inside.
