probally through the propaghanda spewed into public "classrooms" like here in america.
Because most of the people believe the shit the Yanks tell us.
Indeed, propaganda is pumped into kids at a very early age in America. They portray communism as the enemy.
And closed minded suckers believe them.
I agree with Corvus and Truthadict, definitely it's been the strong propaganda in Latin America, plus the "Gorila" governments like the one we had from 1976 to 1983, who were strongly supported by the CIA

Well i think i can give the answer for this question rather bluntly: propaganda. The capitalist state's purpose is to preserve international capitalism and control it, so any redistributive system (communism) that threatens capital is refused, undermined, or crushed. Any bloody dictator that helps protect foreign capital, which includes corporate investment, is welcomed by our state. That is why saddam was once a friendly despot (iran-iraq war) and later he's been demonized for threatening "our" oil supply (gulf war). Our entire media is owned and controlled by protectionist corporations that can manipulate and influence public opinion, so the possibility of indoctrinating the populace with anti-communist sentiments is great. Americans fear communism will always fail because that's what's been drilled into their heads since childhood.
Result of 40 years propaganda.
Let no one charge that socialists have arrayed class against class in this struggle. That has been done long since in the evolution of capitalist society. One class is small and rich and the other large and poor....One consists of capitalists and the other of workers. These two classes are at war. Every day of peace is at the expense of labor. There can be no peace and good will between these two essentially antagonistic economic classes. - Debs
cool, topic. I want to read some more centrist responses.
mainly the rich ppl are afraid fo it. they are afraid of losing the matrial thinkgs that they "suffered and worked so hard for." they dont want lose their material things now that they think they are so close to being "complete"
in other words, they are afraid to lose all that they are accustomed to and are afraid of the new things coming into their lives, especially if its something that they have been thought of as evil all their lives.
for the most part, i think everyone, not just the rich is afraid of this change.
Yo soy un caracol
Thats true all the rich people dont want to share with the people in need, they want to keep all the material things for themselves.
Yes, the rich wouldn't compromise or anything. But what I hate is, why is it that when the word "communism" is brought to attention people think of demons and etc. That was a bit of exageration, but it's true that people get shocked at the word "communism". Yet, they don't know what it is. Another example of brainwash.
Its insane.... I get into alot of conversations about politics in my Economy class and when they start talking about Communism they freak out and go crazy
lol. I laugh at all the times I read in the media about "murderous communism". Granted, Stalin virtually destroyed the Socialist movement, but truthfully I'm not sure if the blame lies in the Communist idealogy or more in the abuse of the Socialist system by those in power.
It lies in the propaganda used against the Soviet Union during the Cold War, not in the communist ideology. Equality...OH MY GOD! It's LUCIFER!!!
Forgive my ignorance, but Stalin did lead a murderous regime which was so bad that 'Marxists' were singled out and killed. For example, Leon Trotsky. I beg to differ that it's solely propaganda that gives Capitalists this knee-jerk reaction.
So, are you saying that the average American knows the history of the Soviet Union and that's why they are opposed to the word "communism"?
Yes, people died in Stalin's regime, but Stalin boosted the economy. USSR becomes a superpower, etc. None of those countries would be where they are without socialism.
I was talking about people who are freaked out by the word "communism", but don't know what it is. It's from propaganda, because I strongly doubt they know a single thing about it.
Junichi, of course the average american has no clue about Trotsky and the like. I too grew up in America, but I wasn't instilled with this utter contempt like many others were. It may have been their parents more than their schooling.
