If the much lamented photo (and flattering, he wasnt the most handsome of men lets face it) had not been taken, would he be remembered?
Che's achievements as a revolutionary are hardly inspiring after all...

That "much lamented photo" has been a point of reference of what an individual can achieve to improve the lives of lots of people, not only in Cuba, but all over the world. It reminds each one of us about the necessity of changing a situation of selfish and oppresing governments to a kind of politics that cares for those less "fortunate"; about the fact that actuallly it is possible to change things; about the idea that some times it´s required an armed Revolution of the oppressed; about the idea that, in a way, the revolutionary is the highest standard of a human being (as Che said and demonstrated himself), and that to accomplish being one of them we must first learn to love and care for the people.
If you say that Che´s achievements as a revolutionary are hardly inspiring can only mean that you don´t know about them, and that you haven´t red anything written by him. In case you do, try to pay special attention to the universal extent of his thoughts and words.

    HASTA LA VICTORIA SIEMPRE!

\"Thus he (the oppressed) will resign himself to live a life that is not his, as if it was the only possible one.\"

He wasn't one of the most handsome men? I think he was one of the most handsome man ever. But that's besides the point.

Che's achievements as a revolutionary are hardly inspiring at all?!!??!??!?!?!?! What would be inspiring as a revolutionary to you? Tell me, if giving up almost everything for the working class is doing nothing...

Do you think we are all here to admire him because he has a picture and he is ugly?

wow, people are becoming less and less aware of history. Its sad really.

"Che's achievements as a revolutionary are hardly inspiring after all... "

I cannot believe my eyes. you are an ignorant fool. if you actually knew anything, that quote would never had existed, and that frame of mind you have would disappear before it was thought. Why don't you tell me what you know of Che Guevara, so we'll see exactly what you dont find inspiring.

What!? we have had converstaions on this site that were about quite the opposite: was he popular because he was handsome. And get over your materialism. i dont care if he was as ugly as sin, his achievements go beyond your short sighted look at his cause. would he be remembered? Well as you obviously base importance on looks, you won't as he 'wasn't the most flattering of men'. but people who see past that, and to his cause will.

The much lamented photo you said is a fragment of an picture taken by Alberto Korda in 1960, during a simbolic funeral of 136 people who die in the explosion of a ship that brings guns and ammo to support the figth aganist the "contra-revolucionários" group. The ship was sabotaged by CIA...

Mephiso ... Jesus is the poster boy of the Christians, why not go bark up their ass for a change.I personally would like to think that Che would be somewhat upset with this cult of personality that has arose surrounding him,for though Che was a Stalinist,he seems to have followed Stalin only up til the early 1930s favoring Stalins command economy but perhaps caring nothing for the cult Stalin had imposed upon the Russian people in like manner as that of a fascist dictator, something which Che loathed. The beauty of a woman attracts but the relationship can only be sustained by a more deeper and abiding attraction, likewise the image of Che attracts youthful admiration and idealism but the attraction must serve as the means to form an ideological relationship and thus preserve the spirit of the true man.Che wouldve rather that people discussed his socio-political and economic thoughts than petty issues such as,"which pic of Che do you like best?"or"do you think Che wouldve looked better in blue jeans or casual slacks?".Che was by all accounts a natural and unpretentious man,he was straight-ahead,in your face, either kick my ass or move aside kinda hombre and theres not a damn thing wrong with a man standing his ground and not giving two hoots in hell whether you think hes photogenic or not. This was a man who was called by friends"de Chancho"the pig,he would wear the same clothes for days and weeks, once bragged that his pants could stand on their own,he was an iconoclast and loved shocking people.Che was a rebel from his youth til his death and has well earned his place as the universal image of a revolutionary.

mephiso research your comments before posting them it really does help allot.

however the said picture of che has become something of a fashion item amongst the ignorant and hence his "pop art" portrait has made him more 'recognisable' (for the lack of a better word) this portrayal has belittled his achievments and people like mephiso make judgments based on what little they know.

Ja zat. Waaronder D-Day. Ik ben geen Nederlander ,maar een Afgaanse vluchteling die volgens de LPF "terug kunnen naar het veilige oord Afganistan" waar een gestoorde CIA agent de president is.

En hoe gaat het met jouw?
Let no one charge that socialists have arrayed class against class in this struggle. That has been done long since in the evolution of capitalist society. One class is small and rich and the other large and poor....One consists of capitalists and the other of workers. These two classes are at war. Every day of peace is at the expense of labor. There can be no peace and good will between these two essentially antagonistic economic classes. - Debs
