thats partly right. when he was in his early 20s he walked and hitched hiked all over south america and met many people. anyway, he would call people knew che. which in agintine spanish mean friend/buddy. so the cubans he met while in mexico called him che because thats what he called everyone else. when fidels goverment was finnaly made, che was used as his offical middle name.
in america, people are born with middle names, but in common speech often there nick name is used as there middle, like che in parantheses in the message board title. i guess it was the same in cuba.
<<because i f**kin said so>>
In Latin American cultures....people generally do have 3 names....their given name, their fathers name and then their mothers name.
Examples:
Che = Ernesto Guevara de la Serna
Fidel = Fidel Castro Ruz
\"strength gathers in my breast even when I feel most alone, and the ardour of my own heart can sustain my voice, no matter how callous cowards may isolate me and try to discourage me\" --Fidel

I remember reading somewhere that "che" was a word originally used by the natives of Argentina to call a friend or buddy but over time it became the Argentinean way to get somebody's attention, like saying "hey you." For that reason when the Cubans first met this Argentinean they started calling him "che" and the name stuck. I'm just going by memory here, but I think that that is close.
Seremos como el Che
That's right, incognito. "Che" could be used as an exclamation to get someone's attention. Fidel and his companions jokingly named Guevara that because he constantly said it; I guess it was somewhat of a nervous habit for Che.
\"Ultimately, all true revolutionaries are motivated by love.\"--Che
i read that CHE is slang meaning HEY or something to that extent. Ernesto got the name because he was always using this word 'che' when he talked to his friends. that is just what i read
[i]\"It affords sincere pleasure to apprise the Congress of the entire removal of the Cherokee Nation to their new homes west of the Mississippi. The measures authorized by Congress at its last session have had the happiest effects.\"[/i:e01ab50d
also cuz ther was another guy called che che. so maybe they got it from him too
Yo soy un caracol
Im Argentinian, Incognito is more close to the truth, and it's not because of a nervous habit, we use it all the time.
only that in the rest of america they don't use this expression so this caught their attention.
It had to have been a habit for him to use it around a bunch of Cubans and Mexicans.
\"Ultimately, all true revolutionaries are motivated by love.\"--Che
Sure, he's argentinian, but not a "nervous" habit just normal one.
That one quote that Menshevik wrote. The one about love being in the heart of the revolutionary - that is one of his best quotes. I am finishing up Anderson's book on Che. I found that quote rather telling about the warmth he truely possessed.
yeah, I think people often forget what revolution is really all about. That quote is an excellent reminder.
