    Default Dreams

Me and my flatmates have recently been keeping dream diaries and then interpreting one another's dreams, it's quite a lot of fun so I thought maybe I'd make a dream discussion thread here.

Last night I had a pretty surreal dream. I can't remember the details until towards the end point, but at the start there is a medieval knight dressed in full armour, standing in a rather sterile looking office room. He drives his sword through his torso, and a beam of bright light burns out of his wound and his body contorts. More cracks of light appear from within his armour, shooting rays of different sizes all over the room and eventually he completely disintegrates in an explosion of white light. I'm left with a feeling of both admiration and confusion.

Next scene, I am on a grassy area of university campus on a sunny day with my flatmates. We are teaching one another to draw a series of interlocking circles using compasses. My flatmates leave one by one, and as they leave the circles we've drawn magically begin to erase themselves. My friend Alex stabs himself with the compass point, and explodes in the same way as the knight did; as he does this the circles we've drawn cease erasing and instead transform themselves into only one big circle in the centre of the paper.

Now it is nighttime, and I am standing outside a terraced house. My friend Caitlin is there and invites to come explore the house which she claims to be the bookstore where she works. She opens the door and I recognise the interior to be the room where the knight exploded, and realise that Caitlin is a witch and try to make excuses not to go inside. A group of 3 people approach, one girl and two guys; they are very well dressed and attractive rich students. The girl casually asks one of the guys if he is still living in a castle next year, and because of this I resent them considering them shallow and ignorant, taking their wealth for granted. Caitlin invites them in, and even though I dislike them I try and warn them not to go in. I try to prevent them physically, but I fall to the ground and Caitlin kicks me while I'm down and the students laugh at me and enter the building. As I watch them through the open door, I get a sense that I know they are to meet a terrible fate. However, a girl approaches me who I don't recognise as a particular person but somehow I know her intimately and my fear fades in her presence, being replaced with familiarity, comfort, and security.

This feeling is short-lived however, as we soon see 3 imposing figures striding towards us confidently. They are muscular and wearing vests and dark glasses, with a mediterranean look about them. We slowly move away holding hands (albeit in a non-romantic way) but when I look again they are suddenly very close to us, and I notice they have fangs and are vampires. We start to run as fast as we can down a dirt path in the countryside, and to the left is a row of back gardens. We are running extremely fast and the vampires are strutting casually but determinedly, but somehow when we look back they are always the same distance behind us. We approach what appears to be a small child, who is startled by us running and takes terrified flight - I feel bad for scaring the child but can't stop running because of the vampires. Eventually I become more concerned about why a small child is out so late unaccompanied and worry he may be lost, and realise we've outran the vampires. The child opens a wide gate into what is his back garden, and from this position of safety he turns to face us and I'm surprised to see he has the face of a very old man, and large ears like a goblin. He scowls at us indignantly, angry at being disturbed and holds some intricate technical looking device that is a mix between binoculars and telescope. I realise he is a very brilliant if old fashioned mind, but a freak and social outcast and I feel intense guilt for having scared him and contributed to his distrust and fear of other people. This feeling of guilt is so intense that I wake up.

Any idea what that might say about my psychology?

Great idea for a post. I was thinking of posting something similar. My dreams are much less surrealistic. They are often very mundane but still dreams are brilliant.
"Direct Action is a notion of such clarity, of such self-evident transparency, that merely to speak the words defines and explains them. It means that the working class, in constant rebellion against the existing state of affairs, expects nothing from outside people, powers or forces, but rather creates its own conditions of struggle and looks to itself for its means of action. It means that, against the existing society which recognises only the citizen, rises the producer. And that that producer, having grasped that any social grouping models itself upon its system of production, intends to attack directly the capitalist mode of production in order to transform it, by eliminating the employer and thereby achieving sovereignty in the workshop – the essential condition for the enjoyment of real freedom.” Emile Pouget

Does anyone know anything about dreaming that you're underwater? I had a dream the other night that I was underwater in a swimming pool and I think I was reading a book or something, but I wasn't drowning. How might you interpret that?
