Was president Truman justified in dropping the H-bomb on hiroshima? Lets take the facts into consideration:

1). Japan were going to surrender four days after they dropped the bomb anyway.
2). They killed over 75thousand people on the day.
3). Since then thousends more have died from radiation and babies have been deformed.
4). Truman admitted, "We needed to test the bomb and hiroshima was the target"

what do you think? Fuck Truman.

The terrorist attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaka were little more than a show of strength. Hiroshima on its own was bad enough, but then they had to bomb another city.

Another factor is that the Japanese had already surrendered to the USSR (though it had not been formalised) and the U$ wanted to steal the Commies' thunder, so to speak.

Yes, Fuck Truman. Militiant DICKtator truman wanted nothing more than to test out his stupid war device. Most of his presidential cabinet did not even agree with the bombing. It fried thousands of women and children and is by far the worst single terrorist attack in history. Truman makes Al Quieda look decent. 75,000? More than that. And afterwards, he dropped on on Nagasaki, the total wa about 210,000, and several thousand more died in the later years of sickness and radioation. It eventually killed over 300,000.

The lethal possibilities of atomic warfare in the future are frightening. My own feeling was that in being the first to use it, we had adopted an ethical standard common to the barbarians of the Dark Ages. I was not taught to make war in that fashion, and wars cannot be won by destroying women and children."

If they did not drop the bomb, it would be likely that the soviets would be the ones liberating japan..... meaning the creation of a communist state there.

The attack on japan was not the last shot of WWII, rather the first shot of the Cold War.

It's one of the great hypocrisies that the world's "freest state" and of the "more civilized" nations of the world are the only country ever to have used a nuclear bomb in anger.

Not only did the bomb instantly and gradually kill hundreds of thousands...it ruined the lives of those who survived. Survivors and children of survivors of the bomb are still to this day considered outcasts in Japan. Most have never had a partner, let alone be married. Who's to blame? The big pal of the West.

I personally believe noone should ever have dropped the bomb, Japan were due to surrender. Germany were beaten, they had already lost.

It was a political move to be in control of Japan, rather the Soviet Union.

wow, where did you learn your history, the USSR did not even declare war on japan until two days after the bomb on hiroshima.

The "facts" as you call them are these, on july 29th the US Japna formally refused a US request for unconditional surrender.

on august 6th hiroshima is bombed

on august 8th japan's plea to the ussr for molotov to persuade the us into negotiations is refused and the USSr declares ware on japan.

throughout all this Japan did not contact america or send out any peace feelers

on august 9th nagasaki is bombed

finally on august 14th, 8 days after the first bomb and 5 days after the second bomb, japan accepts unconditional surrender.

in any case try not to project your ideology back into history. the soviets liberating japan, with what navy. ha

This was a pure terrorist attack!
Pearl Harbour was a military action against the US Navy, they weren't going there to kill Americans!
Hiroshima and Nagasaki were terrorist, US Air Force against civilians and innocents.

Truman had a choice: Send in the US' military and take Japan by force, or nuke civilians for a quick end.

Well, we know what he decided. He would've rather had foreign civilians die than his 'brave' soldiers, who were actually the ones supposedly ready to die in this story.

I recommend everyone read "Hiroshima" by John Hersey, a short but excellent read full of first hand accounts. Reading it will make you realize that Japan wasn't ready to resist anyone's invasion, and just how truly incorrect military 'intelligence' of the time was. Peasants with pitchforks...what could be more of deserving of two nuclear bombs?

    Agusto,
the USSR agreed to attack Japan and help the United States in the Pacific theater. I think it was the Yalta Conference or the...shoot I totally forget. Anyone if somebody can try to finish what I was trying to say, that would be good.

After the conference, US gets nukes....realize no need for the USSR and the US to meet in the middle of Japan...all they had to do was kill 300 thousand people. Duh! ...Shouldn't have dropped the bomb.
