to hear an ex president downplay bioterrorism rumors, praise the social programs of cuba, and give credit where credit is due is refreshing. Throwing out the first pitch, asking for the end of the embargo, this is all good shit! I know its all lip service but you know once every five years I almost am proud to be american. (I said Almost)

Carter was all right.. He was just pretty weak.

His predecessors, on the other hand, were terrible.

I hope Carter may improve civil rights, push for economic reform, and mostly lift the embargo, speaking of which, do Americans generally support it, or do they want it gone as well?

Have to say, I enjoyed reading the reports from right-wing newspapers. They were obviously in great pains to talk about Carter's wish for the embargo to be dropped. Not to mention emphasising heavily how he mentioned there were some bad things in Cuban society that needed reform.

Sure, there are some bad things, but they don't require extra emphasis. And there are bad things in America, also. But of course, they'll never be mentioned, because America is pure and good. Cuba is a rogue nation with an evil-doer at the helm, right? Right?

Im not much of a sympathiser to the democrats because their the "lesser of the two evils" but I have to say that Carter was better than any other yanqui president in the last 50 years. Which shows how image-based this society is when it comes to voting. The only reason they voted Reagan over Carter was because of the hostages in Iran (I mean, for fuck sake, people actually LAUGPH at Reagan and his stupid, ultra-conservative "supply-side" economics).

Now I wouldn't be surprised if Dubya were reelected in 2004 just because of the war and the "were winning" and "either your with us or with the terrorists" propaganda, even if he's the most moronic, brain-dead leader in the history of the world.

Unfortunatly, most Americans (at least where I live) don't even know we have an embargo against cuba and the ones that do simply do not give a shit. The only people who concern themselves with the status of cuba (as far as I can tell) are the miami cubans and the politicians who need their vote. :/

It's great that Carter went and said those things and who knows, maybe it'll be the first step to removing the blockade.
But as an ex-president of the United States, is he trustworthy?

I think great things will come of this for Cuba if Carter means what he's been saying.
As time transcends, you sit alone in your room. You ask yourself... “Exactly why was I put here on earth?” You snicker a little bit, pondering the thought. The more you think about, the less comprehensible it becomes. It is imperative that you understand,
