well, I may not be the most tuttored person here, but I do know some things of him.

First of all most people admire him for his way of thinking rather than what he did.
He did do some things however that earned him a reputation:
He personally shot a traitor on at least one occasion in the jungle when no one else would.
    Demolishing an armoured train.
Being fidel's right hand from the time they left mexico in a cosy boat.
Writing a nice book that was later used against him by the CIA about guerilla warfare.

However I think it's his way of thinking that catched on:
He wanted to free alot of countries from dictators, starting with Cuba's Batista back then, after that he tried Africa, but failed misarably and had to flee.
He later tried Bolivia but Castro didn't adhere to his promise and thus Che met his demise there.

His spirit will never die, he lived for a cause and died trying to accomplish it.

Of course I have probably left out things here and there and some things may not be compeltely true or maybe incomplete.
But these are just the things I heard.

    hey Guest,
if you really want to figure something out for yourself, do the math, and read up on him, and formulate your own ideas, memories, opinions, If you want to know about Che, read John Lee Anderson's book, CHE. Or maybe your the type who will just wait for the movie to come out??

Someone summed him up in an earlier topic as
A man who loves the world so much he fought and died to save it from the capitalists

hey I was not putting Che down or anything, I was just summing up some facts that I know about him.

It may sound like i was negative about him, but I didn't mean too. Che was a great man with a vision.
He became a marter and that is what gave him this reputation.

If anyone my facts are flawed what I said above please give some proper comments instead of saying things like:
FUCK YOU and other useless things.

If "fuck you" is the only answer/comment you can give than you are truly unworthy to even smell the shadow of the honored corpse of EL Commandante.

The 'fuck you' was a joke wasn't, it??
    If not I laughed anyway.
Everyones so touchy in this thread, whats up with that?

Che was great because he was just a man and seemed to have an attainable ideal we perhaps could achieve ourselves. Bravery, Intellegence, Morals.
I'm sure we all would love to have been comrades with Ches in his fight for freedom.

There's no need to get so touchy. And his response was perfectly decent - the best way to learn about Che is to read the literature. Read anything that says it's by Che himself, or as Izm mentioned, read the book by Jon Lee Anderson. You couldn't ask for a better start. Waiting for the movie to come out is another option, and possibly the simplest one - Izm is merely touching all bases.

Read books about him, read Latin American history about clowns like Trujillo, Batista, Somoza,.. and you will understand the struggles of the people of Latin America. You will understand the injustices of the campesino. You need to understand why there are children with no food while the so-called leaders of these countries were and are living in mansions while the indian of latin america suffers each day. You will understand why 15 yr. old boys picked up submachine guns to become martyrs for the cause. After reading about Che, read about Sandino, Fidel, Salvador Allende. To understand Che you need to understand the plight of the campesino, and why this great man created a revolution to bring equality and opportunity for all. Che, mi heroe siempre!!!
