Ok, well I admit I like a couple Metal bands such as Nightwish, but overall I can't stand it. Most of it just sounds like screaming to me. One thing that really defines "good" music to me is good vocals.

Anyways, what metal bands have you listened to so far?
I like some screamo n shit, but in general metal sucks. Most of it doesn't mean anything, and is unoriginal and pointless. Nightwish sucks.
Rap Metal is cool though, and some other crossover genres.

Most modern 'metal' isn't metal (see: Shitknot), and does just sound like screaming. Thus my curiosity, seeing as there is loads of metal without harsh vocals (that make up the majority of ones that I listen to, actually).
Still, good vocals? What kind of vocals would you say are good?
Try 'The Devil's Hall of Fame' by Beyond Twilight. Also 'Heaven and Hell' by Black Sabbath (try 'Mob Rules' if you like that), 'Holy Diver' by Dio, 'Into the Depths of Sorrow' and 'Through the Darkest Hour' by Solitude Aeturnus, and 'Watching From a Distance' by Warning.
Then again, to fully enjoy metal, one has to get used to listening in a rather different way to vocal-centric music, which took me a while to get used to. Especially metal with harsh vocals, or just fairly crappy vocals like Blind Illusion (who are still awesome). Or, hell, demon frog vocals (Demilich).
Also, I would recommend Jag Panzer's 'Ample Destruction'. It's pretty much the pinnacle of USPM, and Harry Conklin is god.

I used to love all genres of Metal but I don't listen to it often anymore. Trust me, there's a lot more to it than screaming.
it just reminds me of spinal tap - i also dont like hardcore techno seems really pointless - but maybe that is the point
